ABSTRACT

Chagas disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi affects millions of people worldwide and does not have an effective drug for its etiological treatment. The available drugs, nifurtimox and benznidazole, have low cure rates with side effects and toxicity that make it difficult for patients to adhere to therapy. This fact drives the search for treatment alternatives that are more effective and less aggressive. Therefore, this work aimed to evaluate the clinical effects presented by Rattus norvergicus infected by T. cruzi and treated with ultradiluted solutions of Lycopodium clavatum or Phosphorus. The study involved 93 forty five day old rats intraperitoneally infected with 5x106 blood trypomastigotes forms of the Y strain of T. cruzi, distributed in the following groups: Healthy SD (n=13) - non-infected and untreated control, CI group (n =27) - infected control and treated with 7% hydroalcoholic solution (ethanol water), LY group dilution 1:1x1026 (n=27) - infected and treated with Lycopodium, PH group dilution 1:1x1026 (n=26) - infected and treated with Phosphorum. The animals were clinically evaluated through the parameters weight, temperature, water and feed consumption, amount of excreta, intestinal diameter and length, coat appearance and feces consistency. This study showed that the parameters used were important for the clinical definition of infection of Rattus novergicus, Wistar lineage by T. cruzi. It showed that LY and PH drugs have beneficial effects on the clinical evolution of treated animals. The use of Lycopodium clavatum and Phosphorus diluted in the ratio of 1:1x1026, showed different effects. Eight and six parameters out of fourteen analyzed showed positive effects for LY and PH, respectively. The parameters water and feed consumption, amount of excreta, diarrhea, diffuse alopecia and intestinal length showed significant differences in relation to the infected control, showing that more studies are needed with the use of ultradiluted drugs in T. cruzi infection.

ABSTRACT

Uric acid is the main form of excretion of nitrogenous components in birds. The assessment verification samples, control, check of uric acid concentrations is widely used to detect kidney disease. High concentrations (up to five times) of uric acid in plasma can lead to the precipitation of this acid in the form of crystals, which accumulate in the tissues, mainly in the synovial joints and the viscera surface. Aims: report the evolution of homeopathic treatment in increased uric acid in Magellanic penguins (Spheniscus magellanicus) from Santo André Municipal Zoo. Methodology: 12 animals showed an increase in uric acid (reference values 0,3-16,1mg/dL) and received homeopathic treatment with Lycopodium clavatum 6cH. The protocol established was the administration of two globules of Lycopodium clavatum 6cH, once a day, inside fishes offered in the animal's beak. Treatment started on 25/09/2019. On 30/10/2019 was collected a new blood sample, those who were not discharged were kept on treatment and new collections were made on 27/11/2019 and 17/12/2019. Results: 8 animals had an average uric acid of 20.45mg /dl and responded to the 35-days treatment, normalizing the biochemical values with an average of 12.24mg /dl. Two animals with 18.27 mg /dl were discharged in 62 days with 11.70 mg /dl and another two penguins with 19.85 mg /dl were discharged in 82 days later with 9.57 mg /dl of uric acid. Conclusion: Homeopathy proved to be successful in the treatment of increased uric acid in Magellanic penguins, easy to administer, affordable and without side effects.

ABSTRACT

Background Simple and mucopurulent chronic bronchitis (SMCB) is characterized by recurrent mucoid or mucopurulent expectoration in absence of localized suppurative disease. This observational open label study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of homeopathic medicine in SMCB. Methods 1902 patients were screened from 07 centres out of which 1305 were excluded. 597 patients were enrolled as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A total of 14 pre-defined homeopathic medicines were shortlisted for prescription after repertorizing the pathological symptoms of SMCB. Outcomes were assessed through chronic bronchitis symptom scale (CBSS) and FEV1/ FVC ratio with spirometry for over a period of two years. Appearance of any change (relief/ worse)/ status quo was immediately followed by placebo/ change in dilution/ change in remedy. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 20. Results: 532 patients were analyzed based on the intention to treat principle using last observation carry forward method. Mean CBS score reduced from 29.86±4.5 at baseline to 12.33±7.6 at completion of 2 years. Repeated measures ANOVA, at time points 0 (baseline), 3, 6, 9, 12 ,15, 18, 21 and 24 months, showed significant reduction in CBS scores [Wilk's Lambda 0.104, F=564, df 524; p=00001]. The FEV1 and FEV1/FVC was maintained within normal limits. 86% prescriptions included Lycopodium, Arsenicum album, Pulsatilla, Phosphorus, Stannum metallicum, Calcarea carbonica, Silicea, Bryonia alba. Conclusion: The result suggests effectiveness of homeopathic treatment in early years of SCMB patients. Controlled trials are warranted. (AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract There are several controversies regarding the efficacy of homeopathic substances; however, these remedies are used in many countries for the treatment of various pathological conditions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial activity of two homeopathic tinctures Arsenicum album (mineral extract) and Lycopodium clavatum (plant extract) on the periodontal bacteria Actinomyces israelii, Streptococcus sanguinis, Prevotella intermedia, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Phorphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). Materials and methods: Equal numbers of bacteria were seeded on agar plates containing enriched media with the homeopathic solutions at 1dH and 1cH dilutions. After 7 days of incubation under anaerobic conditions, colony forming units (CFUs) were counted. The antibacterial effect was calculated based on the total number of CFUs observed on non-tincture containing agar, and on the tincture containing plates. Results: No visible growth of any of the strains was observed on the plates containing Arsenicum album at any of the dilutions tested. In contrast, when Lycopodium clavatum at 1cH dilution was tested, only P. gingivalis was susceptible to this compound. Conclusions: The results suggest that the mineral extract tincture had a greater antibacterial activity than the plant extract tincture, also Lycopodium clavatum preparation could be an effective inhibitor of periodontal pathogens bacteria such as P. gingivalis.

Resumen Se necesita un mayor número de estudios in vitro e in vivo para validar estos resultados.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Asthma management with homeopathy requires the knowledge and skill of the physician to select appropriate drugs at two different moments: during the crisis, in which the physician must act quickly to allow adequate breathing of the patient, and in a second time to correct the constitution of the patient, in order to regulate the alteration of the immune response and prevent that acute phases will appear again.

ABSTRACT

From the homeopathic medicine perspective, the patient's diagnosis is not only based on the simple observation of a symptom or trait, but it requires the intelligent integration of all possible components of the individual, in order to undestand his complexity and his disease: his age, gender, body type, dietary needs, behavioral, cognitive, emotional relationships, and the family history of disease, as the suppression of external physical symptoms and its activities are important thinks to know. The reason for this is because only in this way the homeopath can elaborate the correct prescription in accordance with the Law similarity.

ABSTRACT

Homeopathic treatment of onychomycosis is usually very difficult and outcomes are not favorable. On the other hand, conventional treatment seems more effective, but it is exceedingly long and potentially toxic. This article reports the case of a 28 year-old patient presenting recidivating onychomycosis with positive culture for Trycophyton rubrum. Initially an individualized remedy was selected, followed by the association of a nosode (Trycophyton). The patient improved both in general state and local affection, suggestion that the use of nosodes under isopathic criteria can be potentially effective in the treatment of onychomycosis.
