ABSTRACT
Se evaluó a 6000 postulantes a la Policía Nacional del Perú en 1991 en el Centro de Reconocimiento Médico del Servicio de Sanidad PNP, con el objetivo de conocer la prevalencia de la patología ortopédica en una población supuestamente sana. Como resultado, se encontró una incidencia de alteraciones ortopédica de 1263 casos (21 por ciento). De éstas, el pie plano tuvo mayor prevalencia con 585 casos (9.8 por ciento). La alta prevalencia de la patología encontrada se considera de importancia epidemiológica para salud pública.

O presente estudo visa avaliar a correlaçäo ou näo entre a assistência de enfermagem prestada aos clientes portadores de afecçöes ortopédicas, com imobilizaçäo dos membros inferiores, no 1§, 3§, 6§ pós-operatório, observando-se se a mesma está ou näo, dirigida para o autocuidado.

In the present study the researcher has chosen fracture of the upper end of the femur to implement a plan of care to the patients, to evaluate its effect to identify the complications that may result from long period of recumbency. The sample comprised 130 consecutive cases taken from the casualty department and were divided alternatingly into two groups. An experimental group comprised 65 patients given the proposed preventing nursing and concern group of 65 patients received the routine hospital care. This study showed a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in relation to free and early mobility of the patient, shorter period of hospitalization and lessen complications. It was concluded that nurses' knowledge as regards patients care needs to be improved to meet the new demands of elderly patients in orthopedic hospital
