ABSTRACT
In this communication, information on the clinical features of different types of venomous snakes including those prevalent in Oman, is summarised. The practical aspects of antivenom administration including dosage in adults and children and the problem of allergic reactions which is a relatively common complication of antivenom administration are highlighted. The need to identify the offending snake in each instance and the risks involved in such exercise, essential as it is, are also emphasised. The rationale and value of traditional methods of managing the problem such as blood letting, splinting affected limb[s] and the use of tourniquet are also described. The need for providing adequate supportive care is emphasised
