ABSTRACT

A esterilização por óxido de etileno consiste no principal método esterilizante aplicado à esterilização de materiais termossensíveis. O óxido de etileno pode ser usado puro ou em misturas com gases inertes, a fim de diminuir suas características de inflamabilidade e explosividade. O presente trabalho objetivou o estudo da influência da concentração gasosa sobre a efetividade esterilizante da mistura de óxido de etileno com HCFCs 22 e 124 (Oxyfume 2002R), sob distintas temperaturas (45, 55 e 65ºC). Procedeu-se a desafios sub-letais (3, 6, 9, 12 e 15 minutos), empregando indicadores biológicos Attest 1264R da 3M, contendo Bacilus subtilus var. niger ATCC 9372. ABSTRACT

Topical treatment of the phytochemical plumbagin in doses ranging 0.005-5 micrograms prevented oocyte development and affected fecundity and fertility in M. domestica. The treatment to wandering larvae was less effective as the compound could only effect the fertility to a significant level whereas the fecundity was not significantly reduced. The effect of the compound was more pronounced in adult treatments where both fecundity and fertility reduced drastically. The compound also effected the oocyte maturation as it arrested the development of vitellogenic oocyte at stage six. As the juvenile hormone analogue methoprene and moulting hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone or the mixture of these hormones could not restore the development of the oocyte in ovaries of plumbagin treated flies, it is concluded that the compound does not effect the female houseflies through hormonal pathways, instead in all probability it acts like a cytotoxic compound.

ABSTRACT

O efeito esporocida de preparaçöes contendo formaldeído nas concentraçöes de 4, 5, 6 e 8%, juntamente com álcool e quaternários de amônio, foi avaliado pela técnica da AOAC (The Association of Official Analytical Chemists). O tempo necessário para a destruiçäo dos esporos de Bacillus subtilis e Clostridium sporogenes foi, respectivamente, de 8 e 18 horas. É importante assinalar que as soluçöes contendo 4 e 5% de formaldeído näo apresentam os vapores irritantes täo característicos deste desinfetante quando utilizado em concentraçöes mais altas
