ABSTRACT

(AU)

Special Testimony is a method of judicial hearing of children and adolescents in Brazil, usually accompanied by psychologists. The objective of the present study was to know the opinions of Brazilian psychologists who work with children's testimony about this practice. A cross-sectional exploratory qualitative research was conducted using digital tools such as Skype and Whatsapp. A total of 10 Brazilian psychologists, from six different states, working with Special Testimony completed a socio-demographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The interviews were analyzed according to the Thematic Analysis. Six themes were highlighted: professional role, interdisciplinary work, feelings, swiftness, protection, and legislation. Taken together, these themes indicate that the Special Testimony is swift and protective for children and adolescents victims of sexual violence, highlighting possible challenges to its implementation. The results obtained provided more knowledge about the Special Testimony and can be used in future revisions of this practice. (AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract This article aims to understand the production of psychological reports in the Forensic Psychiatric Institute (FPI) Maurício Cardoso between 1989 and 2016 from an archaeogenealogical perspective. To locate the production of psychological reports in the field of relations between judicial and psychiatric discourses, this study performed a brief historical review of the 18th-century penal system reform, which established a new criminal rationality and heightened the tensions produced by crimes without reason in this regime of truth. From the 263 administrative folders cataloged in the FPI archive, 43 documents written by psychologists were selected for the research scope. These documents were analyzed and divided into five different moments, indicating three discursive regimes: an explanatory one, founded on the relations between development, instinct, and danger; a disciplinary regime of surveillance and reporting; and a discursive regime that works through the modulation of care power.(AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT To theorize and reflect on the possibilities of the forensic nurse's performance, emphasizing the work as a civil and criminal expert, based on the Brazilian legislation, ethical principles, and comprehensive care for human beings. This is a theoretical study of exploratory nature with reflective and critical characteristics. It was based on the history of the national and international development of the forensic nursing specialty. It is organized into four categories, namely: areas of practice of forensic nurses in North American countries; state-of-the-art North American forensic nursing and the Brazilian reality, and nursing action in the face of violence. This way, international history, national panorama, and in-depth theoretical study were concatenated. Evidence of the contribution of forensic nursing to criminal and civil areas points to the emerging need for implementation and recognition of this practice within the scope of forensic investigation in Brazil with the inclusion of the topic in undergraduate courses.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

(AU)

Discussions about the role of psychologists in listening to allegations of sexual violence against children and adolescents have emerged across the country. Specialized listening, special testimony, and an expert legal psychological report are procedures provided for in Brazilian law at different steps of an allegation of sexual violence within the System of Guarantee of Rights. While the first 2 can rely on professionals from other fields, the expert legal psychological report is the private responsibility of psychologists. Given that the main source of information about the alleged events is the child, this narrative review article aims to discuss the psychologist's listening to allegations of sexual violence in the contexts of specialized listening, special testimony, and expert legal psychological report. The article also aims to present general guidelines for interviews with children and adolescents, considered in the literature as good practices in this field. Considering the interview as the common point between these 3 procedures, it is recommended the use of open questions, preparation of the place where the interview will be conducted, and the use of empirically validated protocols to obtain the report of the alleged event. It was observed that in the specialized literature as well as in the Brazilian legislation, it is still necessary to elucidate the operationalization of 'Specialized Listening', as it can hinder the effective performance of professionals working in protection and care services for children and adolescents. (AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE@#Successful application experiences on public-private partnership (PPP) in different countries, suggest that PPP could be an option in road traffic injury (RTI) prevention. The present study aims at investigating the applicability of PPP policy in RTI prevention in Iran based on the experts' perspectives.@*METHODS@#This is a qualitative study with grounded theory approach which has been conducted in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Iran in 2018. The participants were 22 experts in the field of RTIs selected using purposive sampling method. Data were collected by semi-structured interviews and analyzed with content-analysis method.@*RESULTS@#The results were classified under 5 main themes (applicability, scopes and services, challenges, advantages, and strategies) for applying PPP policy and 37 sub-themes. Due to the prevalence of RTIs, the present challenges in public sector, existence of qualified private sector, and successful experiences in other areas, there are opportunities for private sector partnership in prevention of RTIs. Private sector could participate in different scopes and services regarding RTI prevention, including road construction and maintenance, maintenance and provision of vehicles safety and public education. The main challenges including legislation issues, ambiguities in collaboration, political and organizational unsustainability, government's financial hardship and lack of experienced experts in the field of RTI. However, there are significant advantages including high efficiency in program implementation, covering the weaknesses of public sector, effective and efficient management on application of PPP in RTI prevention. The strategies include identifying and prioritizing the assignable activities, identifying the qualified private sector, developing PPP policies and legal frameworks, creating a common language between public and private parties, trying to meet the expectations of the private sector by public sector, developing a comprehensive and sound contract, and cultivating public culture to accept private sector in the field of RTI prevention.@*CONCLUSION@#This study sought to determine whether PPP could be used as strategy to reduce the burden of RTIs in Iran. But it requires a lot of preliminary studies to provide the context and conditions for applying this policy.

ABSTRACT

There is a leading role and a high demand for requests for psychological expertise in cases of sexual abuse. The admissibility of expert evidence requires scientific rigor of the technique. Projective graphic tests have historically been questioned for use in the forensic field. However, they provide valuable information about the subject, suitable for children and adolescents, it don't revictimize. The graphical projective technique Person in the Rain was updated in Argentina based on the concepts and instruments of the David Liberman Algorithm technique, consolidating a reliability to study subjective resources in a situation of vulnerability. There is usefulness in the psychological expertise of abuse to identify degrees of self-maturation, detect the presence of trauma or normal psychosexual development, helping to estimate possible psychological damage(AU)

ABSTRACT

This article presents expert recommendations for assisting newborn children of mothers with suspected or diagnosed coronavirus disease 2019 </mac_aq>(COVID-19). The consensus was developed by five experts with an average of 20 years of experience in neonatal intensive care working at a reference university hospital in Brazil for the care of pregnant women and newborns with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. Despite the lack of scientific evidence regarding the potential for viral transmission to their fetus in pregnant mothers diagnosed with or suspected of COVID-19, it is important to elaborate the lines of care by specialists from hospitals caring for suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases to guide multidisciplinary teams and families diagnosed with the disease or involved in the care of pregnant women and newborns in this context. Multidisciplinary teams must be attentive to the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 so that decision-making is oriented and assertive for the management of the mother and newborn in both the hospital setting and at hospital discharge.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Bite marks are injuries that contribute to victims and criminals identification, having probative value in lawsuits, since they present characteristics of each individual, even though they don't show immutability and permanence, except when photographed. Objective: Verify the potential of self-images of bite marks from mobile devices, for identification of aggressors and to estimate the respective time of perception of the unicity. Methodology: This research consists of the participation of 6 (six) volunteers, being defined by raffle that one will be the victim and another the aggressor. After this definition, the offender will bite on the medial portion of the victim's left forearm. Photographs of this bite were taken with the camera of the cell phone and the times registered with time spaces of 5 minutes to 40 minutes. After this step, photographs of the upper and lower arches of the 5 (five) suspects were taken. The confrontation of these images with the self-image of the assaulter was done by direct comparison and overlap using Image J (free software). Results: After comparing the arches of the 5 suspects, it was possible to identify the aggressor. Conclusion: In the present pilot study, it was observed that the photographical images taken up to fifteen minutes after the bite showed sufficient anatomical characteristics to compare and identify the offender. After 20 minutes of the picture being taken, there were no more harmful skin characteristics that would support the uniqueness requirement

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT The indolent evolution of low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (mPTC) in adult patients and the consequences of thyroidectomy require a revision of the management traditionally recommended. Aiming to spare patients unnecessary procedures and therapies and to optimize the health system in Brazil, we suggest some measures. Fine-needle aspiration of nodules ≤ 1 cm without extrathyroidal extension on ultrasonography should be performed only in nodules classified as "very suspicious" (i.e., high suspicion according to ATA, high risk according to AACE, TI-RADS 5) and in selected cases [age < 40 years, nodule adjacent to the trachea or recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN), multiple suspicious nodules, presence of hypercalcitoninemia or suspicious lymph nodes]. Active surveillance (AS) rather than immediate surgery should be considered in adult patients with low-risk mPTC. Lobectomy is the best option in patients with unifocal low-risk mPTC who are not candidates for AS because of age, proximity of the tumor to the trachea or RLN, or because they opted for surgery. The same applies to patients who started AS but had a subsequent surgical indication not due to a suspicion of tumor extension beyond the gland or multicentricity. Molecular tests are not necessary to choose between AS and surgery or, in the latter case, between lobectomy and total thyroidectomy. The presence of RAS or other RAS-like mutations or BRAFV600E or other BRAF V600E-like mutations should not modify the management cited above; however, the rare cases of mPTC exhibiting high-risk mutations, like in the TERT promoter or p53, are not candidates for AS.

ABSTRACT

Abstract: This article aims to make a contribution to the theory and clinic of trauma. For this, we will present a dialogue between the literature of testimony and psychoanalysis. Our goal will be to show how the recognition and share the other, highlighted in the literature of testimony, may be linked to primary and constitutive relation of self and of the psychic apparatus, which occurs in the relationship established with caregivers. From this, we can think of an important clinical issue with regard to the treatment of traumatic neurosis.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objective: To map and categorize, according to the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), the specific assignments of the nurses and to identify the assignments shared with doctors and physiotherapists in the Emergency Service. Method: Descriptive exploratory study, carried out in two phases: first, the analysis of dissertations /theses from the database of the Center for Studies and Research of the Brazilian Nursing Association; Second, the use of the Delphi Technique to reach the consensus about which assignments were specific to the nurse and which were shared with physiotherapists and doctors. Results: The results were 45.7% for specific to the nurses, 14.2% for shared with physiotherapists and/or doctors, and in 40% (n=42) there was no consensus about the sharing of assignments. Conclusion: The sharing of actions among professionals shows an increase in the scope of the practice of professions and the constitution of a common sphere of work, but the high number of assignments with no consensus among specialists can be a potential factor in conflicts due to the lack of definition of these assignments.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Objectives: To ascertain the opinions of North American genitourinary (GU) experts regarding inclusion of technologies such as prostate - specific membrane antigen (PSMA) and C - 11 choline positron emission tomography (PET) into routine practice. Materials and Methods: A survey was distributed to North American GU experts. Questions pertained to the role of PSMA and C - 11 PET in PCa management. Participants were categorized as "supporters" or "opponents" of incorporation of novel imaging techniques. Opinions were correlated with practice patterns. Results: Response rate was 54% and we analyzed 42 radiation oncologist respondents. 17 participants (40%) have been in practice for > 20 years and 38 (90%) practice at an academic center. 24 (57%) were supporters of PSMA and 29 (69%) were supporters of C - 11. Supporters were more likely to treat pelvic nodes (88% vs. 56%, p < 01) and trended to be more likely to treat patients with moderate or extreme hypofractionation (58% vs. 28%, p = 065). Supporters trended to be more likely to offer brachytherapy boost (55% vs. 23%, p = 09), favor initial observation and early salvage over adjuvant radiation (77% vs. 55%, p = 09), and to consider themselves expert brachytherapists (69% vs. 39%, p = 09). Conclusions: There is a polarization among GU radiation oncology experts regarding novel imaging techniques. A correlation emerged between support of novel imaging and adoption of treatment approaches that are clinically superior or less expensive. Pre - existing biases among GU experts on national treatment - decision panels and leaders of cooperative group studies may affect the design of future studies and influence the adoption of these technologies in clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to develop a valid Adult Fall Assessment Scale Korean version (FAS-K) for inpatients in general hospitals in Korea. METHODS: This a 14 item FAS-K was developed based on a review of national and international research and expert opinions in related field. Interrater reliability of FAS-K was analyzed using the ICC (Intraclass Correlation Coefficients). To examine the validity of FAS-K, a CVI (Content Validity Index), the Pearson correlation coefficients between FAS-K and two widely used scales, the Morse Fall Scale (MFS) and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Fall Risk Assessment Tool (JHFRAT), and the Mann-Whitney test were used. RESULTS: The ICC was .958. The CVI ranged from .70 to 1.00. The FAS-K was significantly associated with the MFS (r=.74, p<.001) and with the JHFRAT (r=.87, p<.001), verifying the concurrent validity of FAS-K. As for the construct validity of FAS-K, significant differences between the fall and non-fall groups were found not only in the MFS (Z=−3.23, p=.001) but also in the FAS-K (Z=−3.10, p=.002). CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that the FAS-K is a reliable fall risk assessment tool with high validity.
