ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Following the pattern of traditional homeopathy, this work proposes to employ modern drugs according to the principle of therapeutic similitude, stimulating the healing rebound effect (vital reaction) of the organism through the administration of substances (in infinitesimal doses) that caused similar symptoms in healthy human. Is worth emphasizing that the pathogenetic effects (primary actions) of classical homeopathic medicines correspond to the therapeutic, adverse and side effects of conventional drugs, which should be similar to totality of the symptoms of the patient to stimulate the curative vital reaction (curative rebound effect) according to the principle of therapeutic similitude. To make this proposal operative, a Homeopathic Materia Medica of Modern Drugs was elaborated, where the therapeutic, adverse and side effects of drugs were grouped following the structure of the traditional homeopathic materia medica, while giving particular value to the frequency of the symptoms observed during the phases of study of the drugs. In order to facilitate the selection of the individualized remedy (i.e., similar to the totality of symptoms of the patient), and thus the clinical application of the present proposal, at a later stage it was also elaborated a Homeopathic Repertory of Modern Drugs, where symptoms and remedies are arranged as in the traditional homeopathic repertories, described in another work of this collection. ABSTRACT

Sulforhodamine B assay is useful in determining the cytotoxicity in cell-based studies in evaluating anticancer agents. The protocol involved preparation of homeopathy dilutions, incubation of cells with homeopathy dilutions, SRB binding, and measurement of absorbance. Cells were treated with 30 potencies of HIV nosode, Hepatitis C nosode, Carcinosin, Cancer nosode, and Ethanol along with positive control (Adriamycin). The preparations were tested in HeLa, HepG2, A549, MCF 7, T 24, Jurkat, SCC 40, and HL-60 cell-lines. The homeopathic preparations have shown the anticancer activity measured as percentage growth inhibition. All the homeopathy preparations studied, exhibited anticancer activity on HeLa, HepG2, A 549, T 24, and HL-60 cells. Carcinosin showed the anticancer activity on the SCC 40 cells. Hepatitis C nosode, Carcinosin, and Cancer nosode have shown the anticancer activity on breast cancer cell line MCF-7. None of the preparations exhibited anticancer activity on Human Leukemia Cell Line. High-dilution, potentized preparations of certain carcinogens have demonstrated anti-cancer, cytotoxic effects in the cell-line model, supporting the rationale of the fundamental homeopathic principle the Law of Similars, opening windows to its wider applications in healthcare. ABSTRACT

This paper explains the elementary law of homeopathy, the Law of Similars, on the bases of thermodynamic aspects by means of the chemical thermodynamic. Le Chatelier principle was used, to explain the re-establishment of starting biochemical equilibrium compartmentalized in individual human cells of an ill person consuming the remedy, to clarify the Law of Similars. In addition, the application of the Law of mass action during the re-establishment of the initial equilibrium in an ill person when digesting the remedy exposed the law of Similars as the strongest outcome of homeopathy

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Homeopathy employs the so-called ‘principle of similars’ as therapeutic method - which consists in administering medicines that cause certain symptoms in healthy individuals to treat similar symptoms in sick individuals (similia similibus curantur) - to induce a secondary and healing reaction by the body against its own disorders. This secondary (vital, homeostatic or paradoxical) reaction of the body is based on the ‘rebound effect’ of modern drugs, a type of adverse event that occurs following discontinuation of several classes of drugs prescribed according to the ‘principle of contraries’ (contraria contrariis curantur). AIM: The present review sought to scientifically substantiate the homeopathic healing principle vis-à-vis experimental and clinical pharmacology through a systematic study of the rebound effect of modern drugs or paradoxical reaction of the body. METHODS: Employing as reference studies and revisions on the subject published since 1998, we updated the data adding recent studies included in database PubMed. RESULTS: The rebound effect occurs after discontinuation of several classes of drugs with action contrary to the symptoms of diseases, exacerbating them to levels above the ones before treatment. [...]. Following the homeopathic premises, modern drugs might also be used according to the principle oftherapeutic similitude, thus employing the rebound effect (paradoxical reaction) with curative intent. CONCLUSIONS: Evidenced by hundreds of studies that attest to the similarityof concepts and manifestations, the rebound effect of modern drugs scientifically substantiates the principle of homeopathic cure. Although the rebound phenomenon is anadverse event studied by modern pharmacology, it is not known by health care professionals, thus depriving doctors of knowledge indispensable for safe management of drugs.

ABSTRACT

The first part of this paper was dedicated to show the lines of experimental biological research being conducted in homeopathy; now, this second part focuses, at first, to the presentation and analysis of 25 studies of high methodological quality that allows to evaluate scientifically the clinical efficacy of Hahnemann’s medicine. We can say that although the realization of these studies is complicated and that their results may vary, together they help us to conclude that “it is not so easy to say, as a simple overview that homeopathy is a placebo”. Then Dr. Bernard Poitevin lists the hypothesis that different groups of scientists have tried to corroborate or deny to answer one of the most frequent questions posed to homeopathy: what is the mechanism of action of homeopathic medicine (and therefore what type of information does it has and how it interacts with the patient’s body). The results so far are inconclusive, since this type of research is still very recent. Finally, the author reminds us that homeopathy is an evolving discipline and, as such, must avoid dogmatism and even to question its fundamental principles when necessary. Only through a profound research of those scientific problems that Homeopathy propose It will be possible to silence criticism and, above all, we will have a better knowledge of this medical discipline, which consequently will improve its implementation and effectiveness...

ABSTRACT

The homeopathic knowledge based on individuality, has achieved permanent cure for patients who have chosen to treat their ailments with it. Dr. Samuel Frederick Hahnemann described the principle of Individuality as a fundamental principle of Homeopathic Therapeutics practice. For many years allopathic medicine ignored individuality holding that a drug would act in the same way in all patients. Today, thanks to Molecular Biomedicine, Pharmacogenetics has emerged, thus studying the pharmacological response of the individual based on genotype. It aims to optimize individual treatment, goes to a personalized therapy safer and more efficient to allow clinicians to select the proper drug, at the adequate dose, for the right patient. Advances in Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics are undoubtedly, advances in scientific support of Homeopathy.

ABSTRACT

Although the rebound phenomenon is an adverse event studied by modern pharmacology, it is unknown by health professionals, depriving the medical class of a necessary and fundamental knowledge to the safe management of drugs. Despite expressing itself in a small proportion of susceptible individuals, the rebound effect assumes epidemiological importance in view of the enormous consumption of drugs by the population and the lack of clarity on the phenomenon. This article presents an updated review on the rebound effect of drugs, relating it to the homeopathic healing principle.

ABSTRACT

Homeopathy is based on principles and a system of knowledge different from the ones supporting the conventional biomedical model: this epistemological conflict is the underlying reason explaining why homeopathy is so difficult to accept by present-day scientific reason. To legitimize homeopathy according to the standards of the latter, research must confirm the validity of its basic assumptions: principle of therapeutic similitude, trials of medicines on healthy individuals, individualized prescriptions and use of high dilutions. Correspondingly, basic research must supply experimental data and models to substantiate the basic assumptions, whilst clinical trials aim at confirming the efficacy and effectiveness of homeopathy in the treatment of disease. This article discusses the epistemological model of homeopathy relating its basic assumptions with data resulting from different s of modern experimental research and supporting its therapeutic use on the outcomes of available clinical trials. In this regard, the principle of individualization of treatment is the sine qua non condition to make therapeutic similitude operative and consequently for homeopathic treatment to exhibit clinical efficacy and effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

Michel Conan Mériadec developed the structure analogy theory in 1990, and presented il in his book Homeopathy, a medical conception at the scale of man; such concept attracted us so we decided lo support it to try lo explain the fundamental basis of the action of homeopathic medicines known as the law of similars or analogy. The action of homeopathic medicines seems lo rest on an analogy of structure, without a doubt of an electromagnetic order, a similarity between two reactions due different pathogenic factors, able lo bring into play the same body reactio¬nal mechanisms, which induce a similar response. Despite the soundness of the approach and that we have supported it for over 15 years; we have not received any response from people doing research in Homeopathy. We will establish the foundations of lhe approach again, with the hope that line is taken as research in Homeopathy and can be confirmed.

ABSTRACT

The homeopathic model considers the secondary action or the organism vital reaction of the body as a therapeutic method and therefore prescribes treatments by the principle of similarity, which consists to administer to the sick person substances that have caused similar symptoms in healthy individuals. The vital homeostatic or paradoxical reaction of an organism may be explained scientifically based on the rebound effect of modem drugs, which can cause fatal iatrogenic events after discontinuation of the antipathic treatment (a term used in alternative medicine for palliative, also known as enantiopathic). Although the rebound effect has been studied by modem pharmacology, this was not widely known and discussed among health professionals, who have often been deprived of crucial information necessary for the safe handing of current medications. This article presents a current review on the rebound effect of modem medicines as a fundament of homeopathic healing, and alert doctors about these side effects usually are not notified. The rebound effect of modem palliative drugs, which was pointed out by Hahnemann more than two centuries ago, might cause fatal adverse events, which might be illustrated with the examples of acetylsalicylic acid, anti-inflammatory agents, bronchodilators, antidepressants, statins, proton-pump inhibitors, etc. Although the rebound effect is expressed by a small fraction of (susceptible) individuals and might be avoided by gradual tapering of antipathic drugs, it exhibits epidemiologic importance as a function of the massive use of such palliative drugs and lack of knowledge in its regard.
