ABSTRACT

Crohn's disease (CD) is an inflammatory condition that can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract due to an exacerbated and inadequate immune system response. Objective. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review, through clinical trials, about the use of probiotics in humans with CD. Materials and methods. Research was carried out in the PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct databases using the keywords "Crohn's disease" and "probiotics". We conducted the review by searching clinical trials published from 2000 to December 2019. Results. Of 2,164 articles found, only nine were considered eligible for this review. The studies investigated patients with CD at different stages of the pathology, and in three studies the potential effect of probiotics in the active phase was observed; in two, in the remission phase; and in four, after intestinal surgery. The sample size of the studies ranged from 11 to 165 individuals and the age of the participants between 5 and 71 years. Gram-positive bacteria were used in six clinical interventions and in two studies yeasts were used. As for the significant results obtained with the treatment with probiotics, in one study there was beneficial clinical effects in patients and, in another, there was an improvement in intestinal permeability. Conclusion. Currently, it is not possible to establish a recommendation for probiotic therapy to control CD due to the few clinical trials with significant results. There is a need for more research on clinical intervention with probiotics in CD to clarify the action, define doses and time of use(AU)

ABSTRACT

This macro-level scientometrics study aimed to analyze the similarities and differences in the scientific communication patterns of the Brazilian postgraduate programs (BPPs) belonging to the Biological Sciences II field (BS2), as defined by Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES). Also, it was identified the most researched diseases and it was discussed their relationship with the needs of Brazilian public health considering the burden of disease (Disability-Adjusted Life Year - DALY, Brazil) estimated by the World Health Organization (WHO). Thus, the scientific production of the BS2's sub-areas Biophysics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Morphology was evaluated from 2013 to 2016, through considering the citation impact, Impact Factor (Journal Citation Reports), and scientific collaboration. Data collected included formal information provided to CAPES by all BPPs through the Plataforma Sucupira as well as metadata from Web of Science documents. In addition, were employed the standardized Medical Subject Headings (PubMed) for the analysis of researched diseases. We concluded that the patterns of scientific communication in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Morphology were predominantly different. Thus, there is a need to consider specificities among the five sub-areas in the evaluation process performed by CAPES. Different approaches are revealed by identifying the most frequently researched diseases and explaining the contributions of each sub-area for Brazilian public health.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this article was to critically analyze the literature on muscle activation by the use of the Bobath Concept in individuals with Cerebral Palsy. The databases consulted were Pubmed, Science Direct, Scielo, Lilacs, PEDro and ResearchGate, not limiting the publication period, including articles published until May 2020. A total of 827 studies were found in the literature, and of these only five were included in this review. The included articles, based on pre-established criteria, evaluated through electromyography different muscles using the Bobath Concept handling. The muscles evaluated are related to cervical and trunk control, in addition to the internal oblique, transverse muscles of the abdomen and rectum. Muscle activation was evaluated in lateral decubitus postures, ventral decubitus and sedestation. The reviewed articles identified, through electromyography, that muscle activation occurs during some handling of the Bobath Concept in individuals with cerebral palsy, however research is scarce, since studies have limitations in experimental designs and small samples. This reinforces the importance of expanding the investigation about muscle activation during handling with this approach, which can effectively contribute to the decision making of professionals working in this area, aiming at greater efficiency in the treatment and quality of life of this population.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Internal tooth whitening has been a component of dental practice for several decades, but biological risks have been described about which not much evidence is available. Objective: Describe the biological risks posed by internal tooth whitening in nonvital teeth. Methods: An exploratory systematic review was conducted in the bibliographic database PubMed using Boolean operators and key words obtained from Health Sciences Descriptors. The variables analyzed were main author, title, year of publication, article type, journal where the articles were published and biological risk of the internal tooth whitening procedure described. Results were filtered and processed in a database and full texts were analyzed for quality and compliance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: A total 14 articles were included in the study, all of which were either original studies or systematic reviews. In 64.3 percent of the articles, findings had to do with the presence of external cervical resorption after internal tooth whitening. The remaining articles did not contribute any evidence of biological risks after the treatment described. Conclusions: More than half of the articles included in the study concluded that external cervical resorption is the main biological risk posed by internal whitening of nonvital teeth, supported by the triggering factor of a history of dental trauma leading to the occurrence of these disorders(AU)

ABSTRACT

: Physical therapy evaluation is fundamental for the functional diagnosis of Patellofemoral Pain (PFP), as well as for measuring pain, functional limitations and musculoskeletal deficits of these patients. The evaluation also allows the evaluation of prognosis, as well as evolution of conservative physiotherapeutic treatment. However, due to the lack of standardization and validation of measurement instruments, it is difficult to choose the most appropriate instrument to evaluate the rehabilitation process of patients with PFP. The aim of this study was to identify the most appropriate instruments for the evaluation of pain, function and kinematics of the trunk and lower limb in patients with PFP. For this purpose, a search was performed to the PubMed database, using the keywords: "patellofemoral pain syndrome", "physical therapy" "physiotherapy", "evaluation", "measurement", "kinematics", "functional test", "functional activity". Being considered, articles in English published between 2000 and 2019. The inclusion criteria were: 1) studies addressing assessment instruments, such as pain scales, questionnaires that measure functional limitation, and functional tests used to analyze the kinematics of the trunk and lower limb; 2) studies analyzing the clinimetric properties of these instruments; 3) population with PFP. A total of 1,399 articles were found, and after the removal of duplicates, reading of titles and abstracts, 13 studies were included in this review. Such studies were classified according to Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine. According to the critical analysis of the articles, it can be affirmed that the Visual Analog Scale and the Numerical Scale are adequate tools to measure pain intensity in these patients. The Previous Knee Pain Scale, Activities of Daily Living Scale, Pain Severity Scale and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score Patellofemoral Subscale are effective for assessing pain and function in patients with PFP, the first two being the most indicated. The choice of functional tests should be performed according to the level of physical capacity of the patient, being the Step Down Test indicated for the sedentary population, Single Leg Squat and Single Leg Landing to active population, and Single Leg Triple Hop Test to athletes patients.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify and analyze in the recent scientific literature the use of pulse oximetry as a diagnostic method for pulp vitality. Methodology: In this work, a literature review was carried out on the PubMed and Google Scholar platforms in which the use of pulse oximetry in the dental diagnosis and monitoring of pulp status was analyzed. Results: After an exhaustive review and in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 21 articles were analyzed. Most of the studies consider pulse oximetry an alternative method of painless, safe and effective diagnosis, however, the adaptation of an instrument for exclusive dental use is necessary for an exact measurement of the oxygen saturation in the dental pulp. Technological advances in the clinical field of dentistry have led us to search for new clinical diagnostic techniques to improve the care and treatment of patients who come every day to receive a dental consultation. Conclusions: In recent years, pulse oximetry has proven to be an effective diagnostic tool for the diagnosis of pulp vitality. The analysis of the articles included in this review concludes that pulse oximetry is an innovative technique that can be used as an adjunct diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of pulp vitality (AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Objetivo: verificar evidências científicas do impacto do exercício físico no tratamento do indivíduo portador do transtorno do espectro autista, inclusive quanto à coordenação motora e desenvolvimento cognitivo.

ABSTRACT

This paper is an integrative review of the literature whose objective was to investigate the psychosocial consequences of weight stigma in adults and its influence on the treatment of obesity. The search involved the PubMed, Web of Science and PsycINFO databases and included articles in English and Portuguese published during the last five years. We selected 15 articles, analyzed according to the definition of two subtopics: "The relationship between stigma, psychopathologies and eating disorders" and "Stigmatization among health professionals". The results point to the great impact of weight stigma on the psychosocial health of obese individuals and the stigmatizing attitudes of health professionals in therapeutic care. A pathological approach to coping with obesity using behavioral strategies that minimizes the understanding of the problem was observed. Currently, the treatment of obesity promoted by the biomedical model does not include the demands of a psychosocial character, which makes permanent education necessary for training of health professionals and the implementation of specific intervention protocols for this population group. The contribution of professionals from different areas, and especially those of mental health, is essential to pay attention to the various characteristics of the treatment, following an integral and humanized perspective, inserted in different psychosocial contexts. Due to the perversity of weight stigma and its serious consequences, further studies are needed to investigate it as well as the attitudes of health professionals, family members, the media and the general population towards obese individuals...(AU)
