This study about 30 cases of mitral stenosis tries to analyze the results of spirometry before and after mitral valvotomy. In the pre operative state, the volumes and outputs were not very low, as usual in the initial stenosis well compensed but immediately after the intervention we found an important decrease because of the trauma caused by the thoracotomy. One year after the commissurotomy the spirometric valves are normal or subnormal. In the correlative study the authors showed that there is a relation between the diminution of the vital capacity and the increase of the pulmonary and left atrial pressures
