RESUMEN

Patients levels of knowledge and expectations for treatment with dental implants have increased tremendously in recent years. Also treatment with dental implants has proven to be a predictable modality for replacing missing or failing teeth with various types of fixed or removable dental prosthesis. It was traditionally thought that the healing period of 3 to 6 months is necessary. Recent studies show high level of survival rates with immediate and early loading. The object of this study was to evaluate current evidence for evaluating recommended loading protocols for dental implants. A comprehensive systematic review of the literature was conducted by using Pubmed and Science Direct by the end of September 2010. The selection of publications reporting on human clinical studies was based on predetermined inclusion criteria. One hundred thirty eight out of 971 papers were approved for inclusion criteria. 39 were discussing early loading. 40 were discussing immediate loading and 57 were discussing conventional loading and 7 were discussing fresh socket implant placements. Existing literature supports loading of micro roughened implants in edentulous and partially edentulous maxilla and mandible between six and eight weeks subsequent to implant placement with fix or removable prosthesis. It is also possible to load dental implants in mandible in less than one week after placement with fix and removable prosthesis. But current evidence does not support loading edentulous and partially edentulous maxilla in less than eight weeks and recommends conventional loading [after three months]. Special conditions such as lack of primary stability, alveolar ridge augmentation, sinus floor elevation, presence of parafunction, compromised host status and dental complication should be considered as risk factors for immediate and early loading. In these situations conventional loading is recommended. Loading between two and six weeks is not recommended

RESUMEN

Acne vulgaris is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the skin. Many patients fail to improve with the current anti-acne therapy due to the cost of therapy, adverse effects leading to noncompliance or lack of therapeutic benefits of current antibiotics [resistance]. To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of Nigella sativa oil lotion 20% in comparison with well-known drug benzoyl peroxide lotion 5%. This is a double-blind, active-controlled, randomized study to compare between Nigella sativa oil lotion 20% and benzoyl peroxide lotion 5%. 70 patients enrolled in this study, their age ranged between 12-23 years with less than 100 non-inflammatory lesions and less than 50 inflammatory lesion counts [according to the Combined Acne Severity Classification]. 62 patients complete the study. Patients on Nigella sativa lotion show a reduction of [-63.3%], [-64.6%] and [-63%] in the non-inflammatory, inflammatory and total lesion counts respectively while patients on benzoyl peroxide demonstrate a reduction of [-43.8%], [-50.9%] and [-45.9%] on the above lesion counts respectively. The difference between groups was statistically significant [P< 0.0001, P<0.016, P< 0.0001]. 97% of patients on Nigella sativa lotion show good to excellent improvement [more than 50% reduction in total lesion counts], while only 50% of patients on benzoyl peroxide lotion show good to excellent improvement. Patients on Nigella sativa lotion 20% had a milder and fewer side effects, than those who receive benzoyl peroxide lotion 5%. Both groups demonstrate statistically significant increase in lesion counts after 8 weeks from the end of therapy. Nigella sativa oil lotion 20% is more effective and safe than benzoyl peroxide lotion 5% in the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris

RESUMEN

Nigella sativa has an antibacterial effect; it produced also a marked antifungal, anticestodal and antinematodal activity besides its antiarithritic, analgesic, antiseptic, antiviral and too many other activities. To show the effect of Nigella sativa fixed oil on the healing rate of RAU. Forty patients with RAU having no other systemic manifestations were included in this study. Those patients were divided into two groups of 20 patients each. The first group was treated by Nigella sativa fixed oil 10% in glycerin 3 times daily, the second group was treated with glycerin 3 times daily. All those patients were assessed by Oral Clinical Manifestation Index [OCMI]. Patients treated with Nigella sativa showed 100% cure after five days of treatment. Nigella sativa fixed oil is a new effective topical agent for promotion of healing of recurrent oral ulceration

RESUMEN

Comparative analysis of Perinatal statistics over one decade [1993/1994 and 2003/2004] and suggest ways to improve it. The hospital records of Salmanyia Medical Center and affiliated maternity units were used to retrieve number of live births, multiple gestations and stillbirths for years 1993+1994 and 2003+2004. The average perinatal mortality rate was 17.2 and 12.7 per 1000 live births for the first and second periods respectively. Major causes for perinatal mortality were prematurity, stillbirth, congenital malformations and perinatal asphyxia. There were more cases of multiple births in year 2003+2004. Prematurity followed by neonatal sepsis were the main cause leading to death. Birth weight specific mortality for < 1 kg for year 2003+2004 was 706.9 per 1000 live birth. The figures of the perinatal statistics have fallen over one decade by 28 percent

RESUMEN

Twenty four Campylobacter jejuni and coli isolates obtained from Egyptian children were characterized using restriction fragment length polymorphism [RFLP] of flagellin genes and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of whole cell and glycine-extracted proteins. The isolates were found to fall into nine polymorphism groups, eight of which were reported previously in Egypt but one group displayed by 3 isolates represented a new group that was not reported before. Furthermore, the relative prevalence of polymorphic groups in the population studied is different from that reported previously. Analysis of whole-cell and acid glycine-extracted proteins showed that the profiles of these isolates are typical profiles of Campylobacters isolated from other humans

RESUMEN

Rhinocerebral mucormycosis and aspergilloma is a commonly fatal disease of immunocompromised patients which may also occur in otherwise healthy individuals. We report a series of six cases of fungal involvement of the air sinuses and orbits. Three patients also had intracranial extension. Two of our patients had an early fatal outcome in spite of intensive treatment with Amphotericin B. The importance of clinical suspicion in patients with rhino orbito cerebral mass lesions is emphasized. As four out of the six patients were not immunocompromised we recommend that the differential should be considered for all patients whether immunocompromised or not. Early CT Scanning, histological proof followed by radical surgery and antifungal drugs is recommended
