Urinary schistosomiasis with simultaneous bladder squamous cell carcinoma and transitional cell carcinoma

This is a case report concerning a 60 years old man who lived for a short period in an endemic area of Khuzestan Province [neighboring province of Persian Gulf in Iran] for approximately 20 years ago. Recently he referred to the Urology Department of Kerman University of Medical Sciences with hematuria and dysuria. In the sonography a polypoid mass on the bladder floor was observed. In the cystoscopy and biopsy a bladder tumor [Simultaneous squamous cell carcinoma and Transitional Bladder Cell Carcinoma] and schistosomiasis [Schistosoma haematobium] was diagnosed

[ case report of urethra leiomyoma in a young woman]

Leiomyoma of the female urethra is a rare condition and there have been only 35-40 reported cases in literature. We report a 20-year-old woman who had referred with a painless mass in her vaginal vestibule, dysparonia, dysuria and previouse history of urine retention for two times. After clinical examination, imaging studies [US, MRI] and cystoscopy a mass in urethra protruding to vagina and bladder was diagnosed. She underwent biopsy and complete surgical resection. Histopathological study revealed urethral leiomyoma and after operation all symptoms disappeared

Evaluation of bladder cancer in opium addicted patients in the Kerman province, Iran, from 1999 to 2003

It seems that there may be a relation between opium addiction and bladder cancer. This study has been performed to find this relationship in Kerman province. We evaluated opium addiction in 150 patients with bladder cancer [study group] and150 tumor-free patients [control group] and compared them by two-tailed t-test and X2 test. The rate, duration, amounts and methods of opium abusing in the study group were significantly higher than control group. The results suggest that the carcinogenic effects of opium addiction may be related to the amount, duration and the method of opium abuse
