RESUMEN
Background: The effects of Russell's viper Venom [RVV] on tissues were studied in 24 Rabbits injected with 1 MLD, 1/2 MLD and 1:20 MLD RVV
Materials and Methods: Lungs, Livers and Kidneys of these animals were examined by light microscope. Lungs and Liver of all animals of all groups showed intravascular clotting with RBC sludging and formation of platelet thrombi
Results: Kidneys of 1 MLD and 1/2 MLD group showed congestion of glomerular capillaries whereas interstitial blood vessels showed RBC sludging and platelet thrombi. Kidneys of 1:20 MLD group showed proliferation of endothelial and mesangial cells with degeneration of both proximal and distal tubules indicating both direct nephrotoxic action of RVV as well as damage produced by DIC like action of the venom
Conclusion: The results of present work show that RW produces DIC and haemodynamic changes in blood vessels of various organs in acute poisoning. In chronic poisoning in addition to DIC the Nephrotoxic effects are more prominent. Nephropathy seems to be due to both DIC and direct Neprotoxic effects of the venom
RESUMEN
Multiple approaches exist for the management of impalpable undescended testicle. With the use of diagnostic laparoscopy widely accepted in the setting of the non-palpable testis, laparoscopic orchiopexy seemed to be a logical extension. We report our experience with laparoscopic orchiopexy in treating 36 impalpable testis in 32 children at Tanta University Hospital, three of them had undergone a negative groin exploration at other centers, Twelve children had an absent testis at the side under investigation [33.3%]. Twenty children with 24 intra-abdominal testes underwent laparoscopic assisted orchiopexy. Eighteen of them were submitted to a single - stage standard subdartos orchiopexy, and two-stage orchiopexy for the remaining six with a success rate reaching 87.5%. There were no technical failures or laparoscopy-related complications in all of these children. We concluded that laparoscopic assisted orchiopexy is a satisfactory and reliable technique which has the advantage of being accurate diagnostic and proper therapeutic in one setting

A total of 100 human autopsies on adults of both sexes from urban and rural population of Lahore District were carried out to find the incidence of emphysema and its types. Emphysema was found slightly more prevalent in the urban than the rural population and all forms of emphysema were more common in the cases from urban areas

This study included 100 patients subjected to different orthopedic implant operations, with total number of 109 studied wounds. A bacteriological study of air bacteria was carried out by measuring the rate of settling of microorganisms present in the air in the three operating rooms available. Bacteriological study of the surgical wounds was carried out by collecting samples from venous blood of the patient preoperatively, swabs from subcutaneous tissue, deep wound and from the suction drainage tubes 24 hours postoperatively when suction was used. High levels of air borne bacterial counts were detected in the operating rooms during surgery. The contamination rate in this study was 18%, 10 cases of them [55.6%] developed postoperative infection, while two more infected cases occurred without intraoperative contamination. Age of the patient, presence of skin abrasions and the region operated upon were found to affect the incidence of infection in this study

This study included 50 patients with simple fracture of the distal end of the femur. Their ages ranged from 18 to 77 years. The cases were classified into two groups: Extra-articular fractures group [32 cases] and fractures lower end femur extending into the inter-condylar region [18 cases]. Nine patients had another associated fracture. All cases were treated by open reduction and internal fixation by condylar AO plate. Results were excellent in 32 cases, good in 10 cases, fair in 4 cases and poor in 2 cases. The use of continuous passive motion machine was valuable in the immediate postoperative period in regaining full range of knee movement

Watery diarrhea, nasal discharge, rales and swelling of wattles were detected in 37% of flock composed of 10000 broiler chickens. The daily mortality was 60 birds. Bipolar microorganisms were seen in Giemsa-stained impression smears from the heart blood. Extensive subcutaneous infiltration with serous fluid containing numerous heterophils were noticed in wattles. Heterophilic infiltration in the subcutaneous tissue and lymphocytic aggregation among striated muscle fibers were observed in the head. Lymphocytic encephalitis and hemorrhages in the cerebellum were seen. Degenerative changes of the hepatic cells together with heterophilic and lymphocytic laryngitis, fibrinous pericarditis and necrotic myocarditis were noticed

Crop impaction, ruffled feathers, unsteady gait, dyspnea and sunken eyes were the clinical signs in a flock of 30,000 Hypeco [Bovans] 28-day old chicks. Rancid ration was used in the feeding of this flock. The daily mortalities ranged from 300-400 chicks for 5 successive days. Congested blood vessels, hemorrhagic areas, edema and lymphocytic aggregation were the most predominant lesions in liver, kidneys, heart, brain, lungs and intestine. The liver showed areas of hemopoietic activity

A case of Choledochal cyst in a 3-year-old girl presenting with acute abdominal pain and jaundice is described. The abdominal mass was only felt during the attack; ultrasound scan suggested the diagnosis. This is the first case reported from this area. Theories regarding the aetiology, clinical presentation, and current treatment are outlined
