RESUMEN

We studied 422 patients with urethral discharge recruited from 4 sentinel sites in Morocco to determine sociodemographic characteristics, history of STI infection, infecting organism and antibiotic susceptibility of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. The mean age of the sample was 28 years [range 16-67 years], and most were single, had multiple sex partners without taking protective measures and came from all social backgrounds; 59.9% had a history of a previous STI. The majority [87%] of the infections were the acute form. By polymerase chain reaction of urine samples of 399 patients, 41.6% had N. gonorrhoeae infection, 6.3% Chlamidia trachomatis and 10.8% both organisms; in 41.4% no organism was identified. N. gonorrhoeae was strongly susceptible to ciprofloxacin

RESUMEN

The authors write about their experience in toxidermia due to drugs and the bullous forms in particular. Within a nine year period between 1980 and 1998, 49,498 consultants and in-patients have been seen in the Rabat Mohammed V Militry Hospital Dermatology Department. Among the numerous toxidermia cases found, drug implication has been strongly suspected in the only 300 cases that we have studied. We have tried to define the following epidemiological and clinical parameters:-Sex ratio is 2/1 -50% of our patients are 21-30 years old - 75% of our patients are 21-40 years old We have observed the following clinical-.30 fixed pigmented erythema -18 bullous eruptions -3 polymorphous erythema Sulphonamides and salicylates hold the first places among the responsible drugs

RESUMEN

Described by LIOYD and DENNIS in 1963, Cowden's disease is a familial affection in which are found associated lesions of the buccopharyngeal mucosa [papillomatosis, papules, scrotal tongue], various types of skin lesions [verruciform keratotic papules, papilloma, lipoma, angioma etc.], visceral manifestations usually related to lesions in the thyroid, breasts, or digestive tract [hamartoma or malignant tumors], and skeletal dysmorphism. Our patient wase aged 14 years, and had presented for consultation because of buccal mucos membrane papillomatosis. Cowden's disease was diagnosed from the clinical examination, past history, and investigations after hospital admission. The main value of the mucosal and cutaneous lesions is their diagnostic significance, enabling a synthesis of the multiple dispersed manifestations to be made, and a possible visceral tumor to be discovered in the early stages

RESUMEN

Searching out ocular deficits was realized in the primary schools of Rabat, which constitutes a first step toward the prophylaxis of the child's visual disorders. We were surprised by the high number of children that presented with an uncorrected error of refraction and by the discovery of a big number of students having an unknown ocular pathology. We insist out the interest to widen work to the whole country and to start it in a younger age, as soon as the visual function is acquired, thus in kindergarden and coranic schools

RESUMEN

Because of the fresh outbreak of soft chancre in Morocco, the authors have reported the case of 781 patients observed between 1971 and 1979 in Rabat [Centre Diagnostic, Hopital Militaire d'lnstruction Mohammed V] and in Casablanca [Centre Diagnostic] the analysis of which had allowed them to note following elements: - Parallel increase of soft chancre, in the 3 departments during these last years. - Most of the patients are young adults [83% between 15 and 29 years old], unmarried and belonging to a disadvantaged socio economic class. "Epidemiological investigation shows that prostitution is the first infectious factor. - Incubation period is short: 2 to 5 days in nearly half the cases. - Chancroid is located in the ano-genital part only. - Sole chancres are more frequent than multiple chancres. - 2/3 of patients had companion adenitis. - Rollet's mixed chancre has been observed in 8% of cases. - Sulfamids associated with a local anti-infectious treatment and rest in bed generally lead to healing in 10 day's time

RESUMEN

For over two years, the authors have observed the clinical and biological development of early syphilis on 299 patients infected between 1971 and 1979 and treated by a single injection of Benzathine-Penicilline 2 400 000. The serological negativisation has been obtained in the proportions as follow: - 95,30% of primary syphilis [blood test positive]. - 90% of secondary syphilis. - 77,4% of latent syphilis. These results compared to those obtained by other more time-consuming and expensive methods, can be considered as satisfactory

RESUMEN

In military collectivity, acute uretritis is a preoccupying problem. The authors examine, through biological laboratory tests, the evolution of uretritis between 1965 and 1977. All isolates of gonococcus [Neisseria gonorrheae] are tested, in-vitro, towards 12 antibacterial agents. Progressive resistance of N. gonorrheae, particularly, to Penicillin G has been noted during this period
