RESUMEN

Breast cancer is the most common caner among Iranian women. The mean age of these cancer patients is one decade younger than that of other developing countries. The aim of this study was frequency determination of Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System [BIRADS] subcategories, especially, higher categories and analysis of its related factors in the patients referred to the radiology department of Valie-Asr Hospital, Birjand. The study was performed on 437 female patients from June 2006 to May 2007. Patients were divided into two groups; namely, those who underwent screening mammography and those who underwent diagnostic mammography. An expert radiologist reported the mammograms according to BIRADS classification. SPSS ver 12 software and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis and P-value was significant under 0.05. The mean age was 43.8 +/- 9 years. Eighty-one percent of the mammograms were diagnostic and only 19% of them were screening mammographies. Unilateral breast pain was the most common symptom [29%] of which 68% were premenopausal. Fifty-five percent of category 0:9 [3%], category 1: 85 [19%], category 2: 268 [61%], category 3: 37 [8%], category 4: 22 [5%], category 5: 16[4%]. A positive test result [BIRADS categories 4 and 5] in our study was 10.7% in the diagnostic group and 1.2% in the screening group [p=0.007]. Five percent of all patients had a familial history of breast cancer. Screening mammography is recommended for early evaluation and early diagnosis of breast cancer

RESUMEN

Hydatidosis usually is seen in lung and liver in human. Involvement of the breast by hydatic cyst is rare. A 26 years old woman referred to our clinic due to a palpable mass in her right breast. In ultrasonography a cystic lesion was seen. In mammography an opaque well defined lesion with a thin calcified margin was seen in her right inferomedial maxillary zone with 3 and 4 cm diameters without breast tissue destruction or microcalcification. Diagnosis of hydatic cyst was suggested and confined by pathology. Hydatic disease of the breast is rare. However, it might constitute a potentially serious differential diagnosis of a breast lump in areas endemic for this disease

RESUMEN

The one-third middle cerebral artery [1/3 MCA] method and Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score [ASPECTS] were used to detect significant early ischemic changes on brain computed tomography [CT] of patients with acute stroke. We designed the Persian Early CT Score [PECTS] and compared it with the above systems. The tomograms were chosen from the stroke data bank of Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, in 2008. The inclusion criteria were the presence of MCA territory infarction and performance of CT within 6 hours after stroke onset. Axial CTs were performed on a third-generation CT scanner [Siemens, ARTX, Germany]. Section thickness above posterior fossa was 10 mm [130 kV, 150 mAs]. Films were made at window level 35 HU. The brain CTs were scored by four independent radiologists based on the ASPECTS, 1/3 MCA method, and PECTS. The readers were blinded to the clinical information except the symptom side. Cochrane Q and Kappa tests were used for statistical analysis. Twenty four CT scans with sufficient quality were available. The difference in distribution of dichotomized 7 ASPECT scores between the four raters was significant; Q=13.071, df=3, P=0.04. The difference in distribution of dichotomized >1/3 and
