RESUMEN

The recent study was designed to know what factors affected the levels of HPL in maternal serum so that physiological studies could be undertaken in both normal and abnormal pregnancies. It was found that the concentration of HPL varied between patients at the same time of gestation. Human placental lactogen concentrations were measured in the blood of pregnant women to judge how estimations of HPL could help in the management of an obstetric population in Iraq. lt was found in the experiment population a mean HPL levels of 0.38, 2.15 And 6.48 ug/ml for first, second and third trimester, respectively. The mean of all population was 4.4 ug/ml. The mean concentration of HPL were 0.22, 5.25, 4.33 and 10.33 ug/ml for ectopic pregnancy, diabetic, hypertensive and twin pregnancy respectively. The results of the study indicate that HPL concentrations are useful in predicting the progress of pregnancy. Also HPL is a valubale prognostic measure in women with complication of early pregnancy and a relaible index of viable gestation
