RESUMEN

The argon laser was used to treat trichiasis in 17 patients [22 eye lids]. The power was 1-12 watt, duration 0.1 second and spot size 50 microns. Twenty to thirty burns were applied to each follicle. The patients were followed up for a mean of 6 months. Ablation of the offending lashes was accomplished in 72.7% of the cases with one cession and in 81.8% of the cases with two cessions [up to 8 eye lashes]. Four cases showed persistent trichiasis [more than 8 lashes]. No complications were observed. Argon laser was found to be a safe and useful option in selected cases

RESUMEN

This study was designed to re-evaluate the eye size and its measurements in fullterm newborns and to estimate these values in both sexes. Two hundred fullterm newborns [110 males and 90 females] delivered normally after a duration of 40.1 +/- 1.331 weeks gestational age were selected for this study. They were of birth weight 3.29 +/- 0.407 kgm, body length 51.1 +/- 2.08 cm and head circumference 34.59 +/- 1.565 cm. They were subjected to ocular ultrasound biometry for both eyes within one day after delivery. We found that, the mean axial length was 16.94 +/- 0.48 mm, the anterior chamber depth was 2.49 +/- 0.201 mm and lens thickness was 3.45 +/- 0.297 mm. There was a significant difference in these measurements between males and females in this sample of newborns

RESUMEN

In 32 eyes of 16 patients with primary open angle glaucoma, we compared visual aculity, I.O.P., C/D ratio and central visual field with visually evoked cortical potentials [VECPS] or [VER] It has been found that, no apparent relation between the visual acuity and the latency of VECP, but there was a significant relation between the visual acuity and the amplitude. The rise in the I.O.P reduces the amplitude of the VEP. Marked alteration in amplitude and latency of VER have been demonstrated in patients with glaucomatous feild defects and large C/D ratio
