RESUMEN

Goats are considered as an important animal not in present scenario but also from ancient time. Due to increasing frugal interest of goat farming globally, profound animal husbandry practices are attaining importance under the target of obtaining quality products along with good animal health and welfare. During the transition phase of life, noticeable alterations in the endocrine and metabolic status of the dairy ruminants were registered. Among small ruminants i.e. goat’s hypocalcaemia, hypoglycemia/Pregnancy toxemia and hypomagnesaemia are the common metabolic disorders which normally precipitated during metabolic anxiety phase. The present study was conducted during the period of 1st January 2019 to 31st December 2019. During this period we had registered total 957 goats at Kalsi, Chakrata areas of district Dehradun, Chorgalia, Kotabagh, Kaladhungi areas of district Nainital and Shetlai, Pantnagar, Bazpur areas of district Uddham Singh Nagar beside this we had also included the concerned cases from Government Veterinary Hospital Outpatient departments (OPDs) of the above said areas in Uttarakhand. In the present study, we had performed a prevalence study over common occurring metabolic diseases of goats like hypocalcaemia, hypoglycemia/pregnancy toxemia and hypomagnesaemia. Besides this, we had also studied the dissemination pattern of common occurring metabolic diseases on the basis of their age groups and parity

RESUMEN

Background & objectives: In sterile insect technology (SIT), mating competitiveness is a pre-condition for the reduction of target pest populations and a crucial parameter for judging efficacy. Still, current SIT trials are being hindered by decreased effectiveness due to reduced sexual performance of released males. Here, we explored the possible role of a herbal aphrodisiac in boosting the mating activity of Aedes aegypti. Methods: Males were fed one of two diets in this study: experimental extract of Eurycoma longifolia (MSAs) and sugar only (MSOs). Differences in life span, courtship latency, copulation activity and mating success were examined between the two groups. Results: No deaths occurred among MSA and MSO males. Life span of MSOs was similar to that of MSAs. The courtship latency of MSAs was shorter than that of MSOs (P<0.01). MSAs had greater copulation success than MSOs (P<0.001). In all female treatments, MSAs mated more than MSOs, but the differences in rate were significant only in the highest female density (P<0.05). In MSAs, mating success varied significantly with female density (P<0.01), with the 20-female group (P<0.01) having the lowest rate. Single MSA had better mating success at the two lowest female densities. In MSOs, there were no significant differences in mating success rate between the different female densities. Interpretation & conclusions: Our results suggested that the herbal aphrodisiac, E. longifolia, stimulated the sexual activity of Ae. aegypti and may be useful for improving the mating competitiveness of sterile males, thus improving SIT programmes.

RESUMEN

This study included 25 COPD inpatients in chest, ICU and internal medicine departments in Damanhur National medical Institute., 10 of them with moderate COPD and 15 of them with severe COPD [by gold 2007][1]. 21 were males and 4 were females [active or passive smokers]. The aim of the work was to study the prevalence of GERD in COPD patients and its effect on the number of exacerbations of COPD. Both groups were subjected to history taking, full clinical examination, full laboratory investigations, Chest radiography, spirometry, arterial blood gases and upper GIT endoscopy and biopsy. Results revealed that the prevalence of GERD in COPD patients by endoscopy was 36% in the moderate group, 64% in the severe group. By biopsy being more prevalent in the severe group of COPD 86.6% compared to70% in moderate COPD. GERD severity increases as the degree of COPD increases. GERD increases with increase in the smoking [pack/year] both in moderate, in the severe group. Moreover, there was increase in the frequency of exacerbations of COPD in GERD patients both in moderate and severe groups. This study revealed that the frequency of exacerbation was higher among GERD cases with statistically significant difference in between both group From this study we conclude that GERD is common in COPD patients being more among severe COPD. Also GERD increase the number of exacerbations of COPD

RESUMEN

Pheochromocytoma has low incidence of 2-8 case per million persons annually, but it is a lethal disease when it is functioning and undiagnosed. It constitutes 0.1% to 1% of hypertensive patients that is curable by surgery. Our study included twelve patients operated upon at our institute in the last 3 years. Two cases were none functioning; one case of them was presented by internal hemorrhage due to tumor rupture. There were 8 males and 4 females. One child has 10 years old. Two cases were extra adrenal. Three patients presented to us with a mass without hypertension and diagnosed post operatively. Preoperative preparation was done using alpha blocker and beta blocker until the hypertension became normalized. lntra operative and post operative control of blood pressure with caring our patients in ICU till the condition became stable. No mortality or significant morbidity had occurred. Post operative normalization of blood pressure had been achieved in all patients
