RESUMEN

To determine the risk factors and complications associated with postpartum haemorrhage [PPH] of more than 1.5 litres. 28 patients had PPH of more than or equal to 1500 ml during the study period of 9 years and 3 months, The risk factors associated with these deliveries were studied retrospectively. The prevalence of PPH of >1500 ml was 0.36%, The mean age of the patient was 31.5 years. The mean parity of the patients was 7.4. Emergency Caesarean section was the single most risk factor. Massive haemorrhage was seen in placenta previa, placenta accreta and disseminated intravascular coagulation [DIC]. There were wide varieties in haemorrhage inspite of blood transfusion. Emergency Caesarean section was the single most common risk factor. Massive haemorrhage was associated with placenta previa. placenta accreta and DIC
