Use of ovulation inducing agents has increased the incidence of high order multifetal gestation. Such pregnancies are associated with increased maternal morbidity and poor perinatal outcome especially due to prematurity. Here, we report a case of sextuple pregnancy following ovulation induction with gonadotrophins. This is the first reported case of sextuplets from Oman

Caesarean sections at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital: a three year review

To review the caesarean sections [C/S] performed at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital [SQUH], Muscat, Oman, over a period of three years. The records of 727 patients who underwent C/S at SQUH during the three year period from 1st July 1998 to 30th June 2001 were analysed. The C/S rate during this period was 13%, 42.6% of which were repeat C/S. Most were performed on women in the age group 26-30 years and of parity 2-3. The majority of the caesareans were at term and done under general anaesthesia. The most common indication was fetal distress and the most common complication was fever. The rate, indications, nature and frequency of complications of C/S performed at SQUH are similar to those at obstetric departments in academic hospitals in developed countries

Synchronous bilateral endometrioid ovarian cancer and uterine adenocarcinoma in a young woman

Synchronous carcinomas involving both the ovary and uterine corpus are relatively uncommon. These tumours represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, particularly if they have similar histology. Ultrasound findings in tubal ectopic pregnancy and reltion to discriminatory human chorionic gonadotropin zone

A retrospective case review study was done at the university gynaecology department to evaluate the various transvaginal/abdominal ultrasound features with regard to discriminatory serum human chronic gonadotropin [HCG] zone. Women who presented with tubal pregnancies at various gestation and treated medically or surgically were included in the study. Serum HCG was taken and transvaginal/abdominal ultrasound performed when the clinical diagnosis was ectopic pregnancy and patients were hemodynamically stable. Prevalence of ectopic tubal pregnancy, symptoms, signs and ultrasound findings with correlation with serum HCG [inpatients who had serum HCG measured] were studied. There were a total of 60 pregnancies in 55-patients [three patients had two ectopic pregnancies and one patient had three ectopic pregnancies]. Serum HCG was measured in 39 of them only [18 patients had acute symptoms and signs and serum HCG was not measured. In one patient pseudosac was mistaken for true gestational sac and in two others the diagnosis of ectopic was made performed in 83% of them, and the rest had only abdominal scan due to non-availability of vaginal scan. An attempt was made to compare the findings in patients with serum HCG above and below the discriminatory zone of 1500iu/L. we conclude that transvaginal/abdominal sonography in patients with serum HCG of < 1500 iu/L is still useful to diagnosis ectopic pregnancy
