RESUMEN

During a period of twelve months January, 2002 to December, 2002, 1009 patients having gastrointestinal trouble were recorded and examined for intestinal parasites. This was carried out with the cooperation of Ehsanullah Diagnostic Labortary, Nazimabad, Karachi, of the OPD patients. Here patients come from all parts of the city and mostly from Nazimabad. Tee patients under study were adults, males, females and children. Month wise data were recorded. The data are presented in tabulated form and rate of infections in different sex, age groups was noted. Out of 1009 patient [69.37%], were positive for parasitic infections including protoza and helminths. These patients were positive either for Entamoeba histolytica [42.85%], Giardia lamblia [39.28%],Ascaris lumbricoides [14.28%], Hymenolepis nana [2%] or Taenia saginata [1.57%]. Highest rate of infection was that of E. histolytica. All the patients had only a single infection
