RESUMEN

Three cases of osteoid osteoma of the hip, two involving the femoral neck and one involving the posterior wall of the acetabulum were successfully excised with a modified core decompression technique. The procedure is superior to the standard methods of excising lesions from the region of the hip. Histopathological confirmation of the excised lesions was obtained. All patients were symptom free three months post operatively. This method of excision may provide a safe and successful alternate that minimizes the potential risks of conventional methods of excision

RESUMEN

Eighteen patients [14 females and 4 males with age ranged from 54-61 years with a mean 57 years] with primary osteoarthrosis of the trapezia1 joint were operated upon for trapeziectomy and ligament reconstruction. Indications for surgery were either pain at rest or pain interfering with activities of daily life or occupation, when conservative measures have been unsuccessful. Patients were evaluated preoperatively for the degree of pain, range of abduction, power of pinch and grip. Patients were followed up for 1.2 -2 years with a mean 1.6 years. Sixteen patients enjoyed excellent pain relief and were satisfied with the thumb. Grip strengths improved to a mean of 24 kg compared with preoperative mean of 12.8 kgm. Pinch improved from a mean of 2.6 kgm preoperatively to a mean of 5.2 kgm at the end of the follow up period. Abduction range improved in all patients from a preoperative mean of 2.2 cm to a mean of 5.4 cm at the end of the follow up period. All patients returned to their daily activities with satisfaction and those patients who were not retired at the time of operation returned to their previous jobs

RESUMEN

Fifteen patients presented with deep infections of total knee arthroplasties. The patients were classified preoperatively for anatomic extent of infection and physiologic status [type A, B or C] according to the guidelines of Cierny. All patients underwent a standardized protocol with implant removal, radical debridement, placement of an antibiotic cement spacer, administration of parenteral antibiotics, and reimplantation after 2 weeks. The clinical results were evaluated at an average follow up of 19 months [range: 12 to 35]. Thirteen patients [86.6%] were free of infection at latest follow up
