RESUMEN

The Internet is the world's largest network of information, communication and services. It is one of a range of health information sources available to adolescents. It is recognized that young people have difficulties accessing traditional health services; in theory, the internet offers them confidential and convenient access to an unprecedented level of information about a diverse range of subjects including reproductive health information. The study aims to a] explore the prevalence of Saudi adolescent girls' experiences of using the internet to meet their reproductive health information needs, b] identify the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics and internet usage and c] identify the appliance extend of reproductive health information among Saudi adolescent girls' A descriptive design and convenient sample were used in this study. A total of 416 adolescent girls in the third level were selected from all female secondary schools in Arar. Data was collected in four months from the beginning of January 2010 to June 2010. A structured interviewing questionnaire was used in collecting data. It included the following parts; 1] socio-demographic data, 2] sources of reproductive health information, 3] adolescents perception of the available health information usefulness on the internet, 4] the most common health information topics accessed by adolescents' girls through internet and 5] Health assessment sheet, to assess the students health practices 72% of girls aged 16-l8years and 28% of them aged 19-21 years, living with both parents 62%, live with father only 18.8% and with mother only 9.2% respectively. 44.4% of the total number of the sample her mother education is a primary school education while 39.2% of her father had a secondary school education. The total sample has all household appliances and 79% of them considered the internet as a main source of the reproductive health information. Regarding adolescents Perception about health information on the Internet; the majority of them reported that it was available, useful accurate relevant, easy to read, trust worthy and visually appealing respectively. Sexually transmitted diseases was found to be the most common reproductive health information topic accessed by the adolescent [35%] followed by pregnancy [32%], drug abuse [12%], fitness and exercises [8%], dieting and nutrition [7%] and sexual abuse [6%] respectively. As well as the rates of harmful health practices and health problems and lack of awareness were significant higher among adolescent's girls with less internet usage

RESUMEN

Aim: The study aimed to examine the effect of exercise as alternative therapy for gestational diabetes [GD]


Setting: The study was conducted at the outpatient clinic of Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital [antenatal clinic], and two maternal and child health centers [MCH] at Abbasia and El-Demerdash Zone. Sixty pregnant women were recruited in the study, they were chosen according to special criteria


Sample: The study sample was classified into two groups: mild and moderate exercise groups


Tools: Five tools were used to collect the necessary data: 1] A structured interviewing questionnaire to collect data related to socio-demographic characteristics and anthropometric measurement, 2] Laboratory investigation record, 3] Exercise record, 4] Diet record, and 5] Maternal and fetal condition records


Results: The study revealed that degree of satisfaction with exercise practice was slightly higher in mild than moderate exercise. Both blood glucose and urine levels, and overweight reduced gradually to normal degree among both mild and moderate exercise groups, but the mean score reduction was higher in the moderate than the mild exercise group. Regarding maternal and neonatal outcome, there were no statistically significant differences between mild and moderate exercise groups but the improvement was more in moderate exercise than mild exercise group


Recommendations: Counseling for pregnant women, a daily safe exercise program is an important part of healthy pregnancy. For women with gestational diabetes, exercise is especially important to reduce complications. Maintaining regular follow-up visits for pregnant women is important for early detection of weight gain, which is very important in preventing high blood sugar levels

RESUMEN

Aim: To investigate the effect of wrapping and elevation of the legs as a preanesthetic non-pharmacological technique on preventing post-spinal hypotension


Methods: The study was conducted in the operating room at Ain Shams Surgical Hospital [general surgery] and at Ain Shams Maternity Hospital [cesarean section]. The sample included 120 female patients scheduled for elective cesarean section, 120 babies and 120 patients scheduled for elective general surgery. Tools of data collection consisted of : 1] Demographic data, 2] Automated monitors for measurement of blood pressure, 3] Graphic flowsheet to record blood pressure, and 4] Neonate assessment sheet to record Apgar score at 1 and 5 minutes


Results: revealed that, there is no inter groups differences regarding their age, body mass index and baseline. Mean systolic arterial pressure MSAP. Meanwhile, a significant difference was noticed among the groups, whereas GI [wrapping and elevation] had a higher MSAP, lower percent of hypotensive patients late onset time of hypotension and a lower percent of babies with bad outcome


Conclusion: Wrapping and elevation of the legs as a preanesthetic non-pharmacological technique could be used in reducing post-spinal hypotension


Recommendations: Wrapping and elevation of the legs should be used in addition to traditional measures to control post-spinal hypotension as a non- pharmacological technique

RESUMEN

The study aimed to teach women in the last month of pregnancy on lactation amenorrhoea method [LAM] utilization and follow up of these women for pattern of LAM utilization. This study was conducted at Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital, Maternal and Child Health Centre [MCH] representing EL-Waylia during the period starting from January 1, 2001 to end of February. 2002 : A random sample of 90 health care providers [30 physician, 30 nurse and 30 nursmg student] and 400 pregnant women were chosen according to the following criteria : Women free from any medical or obstetrical problems, live with their husbands, in reproductive age [1845], accept LAM as a family planning [FP] Method, they must fully breast feeding [BF] since birth of the infant, amanorrheic and they had full term infant and give informed concent. Tools of data collection included: A-Structured questionnaire to collect data about knowledge, observation check list to assess practice and likert rating scale to assess attitude of health care providers. B-For mothers interviewing questionnaire to collect socio -demographic data. Observation checklist for practice, follow up sheet 6 months postpartum which included pregnancy information, acceptability of LAM, supplementation and reason for discontinuation etc.. A significant improvement were observed after LAM instruction than before in relation to knowledge, practice and attitude, for provider. There is a positive correlation between increase the duration of LAM practice and increase percentage of protection. The present study revealed that, both continuation, satisfactory rates regarding LAM reported by majority of mothers as well as the majority of them reported delayed for both of menses and supplementation. These factors reflected that LAM is highly effective in preventing pregnancy
