RESUMEN
Crude powder as well as the ethanolic extract of Ajuga bracteosa were given dialy orally to rabbits for a period of 4 days. Highly significant increase in the serum cholesterol, total lipid and glucose level was observed in case of both powder and the extract. The effect of powder on these parameters was more pronounced as compared to the ethanolic extract. Serum total protein, uric acid, urea and enzymes ALT and AST showed a remarkable decrease after the treatment of rabbits

Interaction of chlorpromazine with tricyclic antidepressants was investigated in twenty schizophrenic patients after their concurrent administration. A significant increase in serum chlorpromazine concentration was observed when administered in combination with both amitriptyline and imipramine with chlorpromazine. If combined therapy is indicated, the dose of chlorpromazine should be reduced or the time of administration of other two drugs should be adjusted to maintain therapeutic levels of chlorpromazine

Studies were carried out on 50 heroin addicts receiving illicit heroin. The serum concentration of thyroid function tests [T3, T4, TSH], cortisol and testorsterone were measured and compared with values of 25 normal males. Urine samples of addicts were tested for the presence of morphine. Heroin does not affect the serum level of T4 and TSH except a slight increase in tri-iodothyronine was observed. Heroin was found to exert a lowering effect on serum cortisol and testosterone level in more or less all the addicts irrespective of age, amount of heroin intake per day and period of contact with heroin

The effects of six different gums namely Acacia [A], Tragacanth [B], Butea monosperma [C], Boswellia glabra [D], Balsamodendron mukul [E] and Melia azadirachta [F] were investigated for various biochemical parameters: ALAT, ASAT, LDH, CK, bilirubin and albumin in serum of rabbits. The serum level of transaminases showed a significant increase with gums A, C, D, E and F while the effect of gum B was not significant. The serum level of LDH was reduced with gums A, B, C, D and F. The serum level of CK was decreased with gums A, B, C and E while it was increased with D and F. The serum level of albumin was not affected significantly by any of the gums investigated. The bilirubin level was elevated with gums A, E and F while it was decreased with gums B and C
