Trichoepithelioma is a benign neoformation differentiated from the hair follicle, clinical manifestations can be solitary, multiple or desmoplastic lesions. Histologically, it is not easy to differentiate from basal cell carcinoma. We report the case of a 28-year-old woman, and short review.

RESUMEN

Two hundred samples of caseated lymph nodes were collected aseptically from 167 cattle during routine meat inspection at Omdurman central abattoir. The samples were taken on suspecious of Bovine tuberculosis and were subjected to bacteriological investigations. The age of cattle, sites and locations of the caseated lymph nodes were determined during postmortem examination. Mycobaterium bovis was isolated from 11 [5.5%] of the caseated lymph nodes. The frequency distribution and locations of isolates of M.bovis includes 6 from the bronchial lymph nodes, 2 from the mediastinal lymph nodes and 3 from the retropharyngeal lymph nodes. With regard the age of cattle; all isolates of M. bovis were from caseated lymph nodes of old cattle. Other Mycobacterium species involved in caseation of lymph nodes included 18 [9%] M. farcinogenes, 3 [1.5%] M.avium, 2 [1%] M.fortuitum and 2 [1%] M. pheli. Isolation of Mycobacterium species is important in differential diagnosis of Bovine tuberculosis which is a significant zoonotic disease that can transmitted to humans by contamination of meat from infected animals and through aerosols. The role of meat inspection in control of Bovine tuberculosis is discussed

RESUMEN

Frenula consist of a mucosal fold in the labial, buccal and occasionally the lingual surface of the alveolar ridge. Their high attachment may cause orthodontic problem eg. [Diastima], prosthodontic problems eg. [Poor retention of denture], periodontic problems [gingival recession and inflammation] and speech problem [tongue tied in ligual frenum]. The removal of frenum could be done by surgical excision using scalpel through different techniques eg. [Vertical, Z plasty and hemostat]. Modern technology now offers an alternative mode of treatment like laser surgery. eight patients [14-75 years old] with freni indicated for excision were referred for laser clinic in police hospital. Laser used was diode with wavelength [810] nm [Oralaser Jet 20 - Germany], energy 1.8 Jul/sec and frequency 10,000 Hz using PPR1 [pulse pause relation] program with fiber tip diameter of 400 micron in contact mode. Laser safety measures were followed. showed dry and bloodless field during operation, no post operative swelling, no pain or discomfort, with normal healing process. as these were first cases to be treated by laser in Sudan, we suggest and stimulate the use of laser for soft tissue surgery because of its time saving, patients comfort and easy manipulation

RESUMEN

Erythema elevatum diutinum is a rare condition of unknown etiology listed with cutaneous vasculitis or neutrophilic diseases. Medical records and histopathologic slides of 5 patients with erythema elevatum diutinum were studied to better understand the disease. Lesions were clinically characteristic. All biopsy specimens showed leucocytoclastic vasculitis. The most significant finding is the association of erythema elevatum diutinum with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis

RESUMEN

This study revealed a significant reduction of insulin mean values in all diabetic patients. The reduction was more significant in vascular- complicated NIDDM than complicated and in vascular- complicated patients with more than five years disease duration compared with non- vascular complicated patients. Glucagon mean values showed a significant reduction in patients with positive family history, those with less than five years disease duration and in NIDDM patients compared with controls. The vascular complicated IDDM patients showed a significant reduction of the mean level of ACT compared with non-vascular group. Significantly increased mean levels of growth hormone were found in all groups compared with the controls. Significant elevation of prolactin level was observed comparing negative and positive family history and comparing vascular and non- vascular complicated NIDDM patients. Significant reduction of IGF-1 levels was found comparing diabetic patients with controls, patients with less and more than five years disease duration with controls and with those with less than five years duration and comparing IDDM with controls or with NIDDM patients

RESUMEN

The pattern of human leucocyte antigen [HLA] phenotypes [HLA-A, -B and -DR antigens] was typed in 80 upper Egyptian patients with established rheumatic valvular heart disease and the results were compared with those of 200 ethnically similar normal controls. The results of the present study suggested that RHD in population may be influenced by the HLA associated genetic susceptibility. Recent studies have been recently begun to probe the monoclonal technology which revealed the existence of a serologically defined strong genetic marker [B-lymphocyte alloantigen]. The predictive value of this antigen in predicting the risk of various factors of acute rheumatic fever [ARG] and RHD, needs to be evaluated to better recognize and quantitate the different lymphocyte subsets to enable production of selective and effective immunosuppressive therapy [at an earlier stage] of this disabling heart disease

RESUMEN

The influence of tumor growth on the various pattern of enzyme activity has been intentively studied during the past few decades. The most unremitted efforts were devoted to determine the enzymatic derangement within normal cells which underwent neoplastic activities. This will provide a clue to the problem of early diagnosis, mangement and prognosis of these turmors. the growth of tumor may lead to an increase of the enzyme activities in the serum.Serum LDH level was measured by ultraviolet spectrophotometric method in 20 normal females and in 45 females patients with different benign and malignant genital tumors before and after treatment. These included 11 patients with ovarian malignancies. 11 patients with benign ovarian tumors, 3 patients with endometrial carcinoma, 5 patients with uterine fibromyoma. 5 patients with cancer cervix, 6 patients with cancer vagina and 4 patients with cancer vulva. In normal control group the serum levels ranged between 120 -240 mU/ml. with a mean of 167 +/- 60. Serum LDH was considerably elevated in cases of malignant ovarian tumors [535 +/- 267]. Moreover, there was a drop in serum LDH levels after treatment [232 +/- 103] and the levels were noramlized one week later complete surgical removal. Serum LDH levels were not elevated in cases of benign ovarian tumors [200 +/- 53 before treatment and 119 +/- 52 after treatment] fibromyoma of the uterus [l46 +/- 53], endometrial carcinoma [187 +/- 54 before treatment and 145 +/- 56 after treatment]. carcinoma of the cervix 113 +/- 47], cancer vagina [204 +/- 91] and carcinoma of the vulva [200 +/- 75]. Measurement of serum LDH in this context is potentially valuiable in the diagnosis and management of patients with ovarian carcinoma

RESUMEN

A study was performed on a group of 38 hypertensive subjects [25 Females and 13 males] and compared the results to another group of 17 matched controls [6 females and 11 males] for assessment of the hazards of lipoproteins cholesterol in hypertensive patients. Hypertensive patients studied showed significant elevation of serum triglycerides, VLDL-C. Significant elevation of total serum cholesterol and LDL-C. in moderate hypertensive patients. Significant reduction of HDL-C. in severe hypertensive patients as compared to the control group. Significant reduction in the ratio of total serum cholesterol to serum triglycerides, and in the ratio of HDL-C. to total serum cholesterol in moderate hypertension. Significant reduction in severe hypertensive patients in the ratio of total serum cholesterol to serum triglycerides. This effect of hypertension was similar to other vascular diseases [coronary, cerebral and peripheral]
