RESUMEN
Background: Maternal determinants influence the outcome of pregnancy and child’s health in early years. Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) deals with the 4 D (birth defects, chronic diseases, deficiency disorders and developmental delays) among children (from birth till 18th years). Objectives were to determine and document the association between maternal determinants especially antenatal care (ANC) and 4 Ds and suggest preventive measures. Methods: Out of 302 children with 4 D’s registered during April 2018-March 2020, 102 children were selected using probability proportionate to sample size (PPS) sampling for each category of 4D. Information of socio demographic details and maternal determinants was gathered on a semi structured questionnaire by interviewing mothers/caretaker. Results: Relevant information could be gathered from 96 caregivers/parents. Mean maternal age was 26.4±4.1 years. Congenital defects were significantly associated with higher maternal age (p<0.0001). Out of 102 cases under study, minimum recommended 4 ANC visits were not taken by 17 (17.7%) mothers. Also, 13 (13.5%) did not take IFA supplementation. Poor health status during pregnancy, was significantly associated for deficiency disorders of child in later life (p<0.04). Conclusions: Maternal age at pregnancy, health status of mother, ANC care (number of ANC visits, IFA supplementation), health seeking behaviour, birth weight and birth order of child were major determinants of 4Ds.
RESUMEN
Background:Gingival recession is the one of the widespread mucogingival deformity and should be treated at its most primitive recognition. Exposed root surfaces are more likely to develop root sensitivity, root caries, cervical abrasions and post esthetic problems. Amid innumerable procedures, laterally positioned pedicle graft (LPG) is extensively used efficaciously to conceal recession defects. The main advantages of thelaterally positioned pedicle graft is, it produces excellent esthetic results as it has good vascularity of the flap and ability to cover the denuded surfaces. Thus, the present case report describes the use of lateral pedicle graft technique in an isolated gingival recession on mandibular incisor.
RESUMEN
Objective: To know the association between pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and multiparity. Study design: Case control study. Setting: Shree Sayaji General (SSG) Hospital, Government Medical College, Vadodara. Participants: Women attending Gynec Clinics and Curative Practice and General Practice (CPGP) OPD. Sample size: One hundred fifty cases and 150 controls. Statistical analysis: Chi-square test. Results: The odds ratio (OR) for PID with multiparity as risk factor was 0.69 with 95% confidence interval (CI) being 0.42-1.09. Among 143 cases multiparity was present in 63 cases (44.05), while in 150 controls it was in 80 (53.33%). The difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.141). But, the OR with untrained person as a risk factor for PID was 2.41 with 95% CI being 1.78-3.27. This suggests etiological fraction of 58.5% (CI 43.9-69.4%) among untrained persons. The delivery by untrained person was significantly higher in cases than in controls (p 0.00001). Conclusions: Present study did not show multiparity as risk factor but delivery conducted by untrained persons emerged as a risk factor.
