RESUMEN

Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease is deposited mainly in the knee joint or the cartilage of the wrist joint and rarely in the spine, but the transverse ligament invasion of the atlas is most common. A patient with gait disturbance showed spinal cord compression caused by thickening of the yellow ligament of the subaxial cervical spine. This paper reported two cases of calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease associated with Crown dens syndrome on a computed tomography scan of the atlantoaxial joint.

RESUMEN

Background@#Psoriasis is a chronic disease that can have accompanying comorbidities including arthritis, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases. Patients with psoriasis tend to frequently visit medical institutions, and their economic burden for medical services is high. @*Objective@#To investigate the economic burden of psoriasis in Korea. @*Methods@#The Korean Society for Psoriasis conducted a multi-center field survey of the patients and analyzed the national insurance claim data. Also, we discussed the medical environment of psoriasis in Korea based on the results. @*Results@#The economic burden of psoriasis patients is substantial and varied by the type of medical institute. Patients also paid the indirect and intangible medical costs. Biological agents, which is used in patients with severe psoriasis, led to an increase in the cost. @*Conclusion@#This is the first study to estimate the economic burden of psoriasis in Korea comprehensively. To improve the medical environment of psoriasis and alleviate the burden of patients, discussion on the more efficient health policy and medical insurance criteria for psoriasis would be needed.

RESUMEN

Nora et al. first reported a bizarre parostealosteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP) as a small size bone malformation mainly in the foot and hand in April 1983 that was called Nora’s lesion or Nora’s disease. Nora’s disease is known for its low incidence and is characterized as a benign lesion, without a malignancy or metastasis with different histological, radiological, and clinical features from other common lesions. Several cases of Nora’s disease on the hand, foot, and long bone have been reported in Korea. This paper reports a case of BPOP of the proximal phalanx of the great toe.

RESUMEN

Increased loading in a localized area is a possible cause of pain-related osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT), but the reported effects of realignment surgery for OLT have been anecdotal. Moreover, no report of realignment surgery for OLT could be found in the English literature. This study reviewed previous articles on lower extremity alignment and OLT to determine if OLT can be treated with realignment surgery.

RESUMEN

Colloid degeneration of the skin is a rare, distinct clinicopathological entity characterized by the deposition of colloid material in the dermis. Nodular colloid degeneration (NCD) is a clinical variant of colloid degeneration of the skin. Herein, we report the case of a 40-year-old woman who presented with a 3-year history of multiple asymptomatic yellowish-brown, indurated papules and plaques on her forehead. Histopathologic examination of the lesion revealed deposition of amorphous pale pink homogenous colloid material with irregular clefts, fissures, and scattered pyknotic nuclei in the upper dermis. The material was negative for Congo red staining, and periodic acid-Schiff and Masson's trichrome staining revealed positive reactivity. Scattered fragmented elastic fibers were present in the colloid material on Verhoeff—Van Gieson staining. The patient was diagnosed with NCD. We propose that NCD should be considered in the differential diagnosis of long-standing facial nodules and plaques.
