RESUMEN

An investigation consisted of 50 chickpea genotypes including 4 checks viz., JG64, ICC10685, ICC4567 and NBeG47 was conducted during the rabi season of year 2022-23 at Seed Research and Technology centre, Rajendranagar, Telangana. The objective of the study was to estimate magnitude of different parameters of genetic variability for yield and its attributes. The observations were recorded for thirteen different yield and its contributing characters and the results obtained indicated that in general the phenotypic coefficient of variance was found to be higher as compared to genotypic coefficient of variance for all studied traits. High heritability along with high genetic advance (% mean) was obtained for characters like number of seeds per plant, number of filled pods per plant, seed yield per plant, number of pods per plant, number of primary branches, 100 seed weight, number of secondary branches, and plant height at normal sown conditions, which determines the presence of additive gene action for these characters and in late sown conditions the characters like number of seeds per plant, number of filled pods per plant, seed yield per plant, number of pods per plant, number of primary branches, 100 seed weight, number of secondary branches, and plant height and harvest index had shown high heritability along with high genetic advance. So, it determines the presence of additive gene action for these characters. So, that selection for these characters is beneficial in the breeding programmes.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Identification of gender is important in forensic science and anthropology. When entire skull is not available for analysis, mandible may play a vital role in sex determination as it is the strongest bone that resists damage and disintegration. Aims and Objectives: To determine the efficacy of condylar height and coronoid height of mandible for sex determination using orthopantomographs and to compare and determine the most reliable parameter for sex determination. Materials and methods: This study was conducted using digital panoramic images of 100 each in both genders. The images captured were viewed on Kodak software and were subjected to measure the condylar and coronoid heights both on left and right side using Kodak dental imaging software. The data was entered into microsoft excel sheet and statistical analysis was done. Results: Descriptive statistics for condylar and coronoid heights on the right and left sides of mandible in both males and females were analyzed. A statistical significance of P < 0.001 has been demonstrated for all the variables. All variables showed increased measurements in males than in females. The accuracy of sex determination forcondylar height is 82.5% on right side and 78% on left side and for coronoid height it is 74% on right side and 73% on left side. Conclusion: The parameters such as condylar height and coronoid height using orthopantomographs are reliable in gender determination and the condylar height of the right side is the best parameter in gender determination.

RESUMEN

A study was conducted to find out the role of honeybees on pollination, seed setting and seed quality of hybrid sunflower. The foraging behavior of natural bee visitants was studied on the parental lines of sunflower hybrid NDSH1 during the flowering period. Most predominant bees observed are Rock bees, Apis dorsata, European bee, Apis mellifera, Indian bee, Apis cerana indica and Stingless bees, Trigona irridipenis. Bee visitants are more on R line compared to A line. The seed setting percentage and seed yield were significantly increased when the honeybees were supplemented to the open pollination. The yields were drastically reduced when the crop was covered with insect proof net. In addition, increased seedling vigour, germination%, field emergence, oil content and quality of seed was observed with the deployment of honey bees coupled with supplemental hand pollination.
