RESUMEN

Vaginitis is among the most common conditions for which women seek medical care, with vaginal discharge accounting for approximately 10 million office visits each year. Since there are no published studies till date that evaluated the Clinical Effectiveness and Safety of Topical Cream of Formula A [Ofloxacin (0.75 % w/w) + Ornidazole (2% w/w) + Terbinafine Hydrochloride (1% w/w) + Clobetasol Propionate (0.05% w/w)] compared to Formula B [Clotrimazole (1%w/w) + Beclometasone Dipropionate (0.025%w/w) + Neomycin Sulphate (0.5% w/w)], Formula C [Clotrimazole (1%w/w) + Beclometasone Dipropionate (0.025%w/w) + Neomycin Sulphate (0.5% w/w)], and Formula D [Clotrimazole (1%w/w) + Beclometasone Dipropionate (0.025%w/w) + Neomycin Sulphate (0.5% w/w)], in mild to moderate vaginitis, hence we undertook this randomized controlled Post Marketing Multicentric trial. Materials and methods: Female subjects diagnosed with mild to moderate symptoms of Vaginitis were eligible and those fulfilling the subject selection criteria were randomized to receive either Formula A, Formula B, Formula C or Formula D for 14 days. The Primary efficacy measures were assessment of symptoms of Vaginitis i.e. vaginal pruritis, vaginal irritation, vaginal soreness or pain, dyspareunia, vaginal erosion and vaginal inflammation and Secondary efficacy measures were assessment of Physical characteristics of vaginal discharge, assessment of pH of vaginal discharge and Microbiological evaluation. Assessment of Safety was done by recording the occurrence of adverse drug reactions. Results: The clinical success rates were comparable and even far better in case of Formula A group (in vaginal pain, Dyspareunia and vaginal erosion it was 100 %, in case of vaginal inflammation it was 92.655 % while in case of vaginal irritation, it was 94.767 % and vaginal pruritus, it was 87.096 %). Adverse events were mild and self limiting while it was totally absent in case of Formula A group. Conclusion: Topical Cream of Formula A is safe and effective for the treatment of mild to moderate vaginitis.

RESUMEN

There is a strong co-relation in between the levels of blood lipids in patients of different subgroups of CAD, however this is not present in the case of subgroups of patients in PAD. Moreover levels of MDA and antioxidant enzymes are also significantly altered in the subgroups of CAD but the correlation is weak in that of PAD. Thus these values may serve as a clinical support for experimental data and supplementary information regarding atheromatous disease.

RESUMEN

Male and female albino rats of same age and body weight were pair fed with laboratory stock diet and ascorbic acid, dehydroascorbic acid and diketogulonic acid were determined in the liver and urine, while in blood only ascorbic acid was estimated. Male rats had concentration higher of ascorbic acid in liver and urine as compared with females, while there were no significant variations in the contents of dehydroascorbic acid and diketogulonic acid. Hepatic and renal 2, 3-diketoaldonate decarboxylase, and hepatic dehydroascorbatase were also found to be significantly higher in male rats. Similar sex variations were also observed in ascorbic acid catabolism in guinea pigs without any differences in urinary ascorbic acid contents.

RESUMEN

A female aged 46, with achalasia cardia had no relief of dysphagia after pneumatic dilatation done twice. At surgery the muscle fibres were found disrupted, with submucosal adhesions and friable mucosa. Heller's cardiomyotomy could not be done. Repair similar to Mickulicz pyloroplasty was done.

RESUMEN

Polymorphonuclear leukocytic (PNML) lipid content was studied in chronic alcoholic and normal control subjects. Chronic alcoholic subjects showed abnormal liver function and abnormal serum lipid profile. PMNL obtained from chronic alcoholic subjects exhibited decreased free cholesterol and phospholipid contents, with a significant increase in cholesterol to phospholipid ratio. Although, there was no change in the free fatty acids, the levels of triglycerides were significantly elevated.

RESUMEN

We present a patient with pyoderma gangrenosum, a rare complication of ulcerative colitis. The patient's disease was limited to the distal colon, was clinically mild and responded quickly to treatment, and yet it was associated with pyoderma gangrenosum and arthritis, complications generally associated with more severe and extensive ulcerative colitis.

RESUMEN

Faecal chymotrypsin (FCT) levels were estimated in a group of patients with tropical chronic pancreatitis (TCP) and compared with patients with alcoholic chronic pancreatitis (ACP), 'gastrointestinal' controls and 'healthy' subjects. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency as assessed by low faecal chymotrypsin levels (less than 5.8 mu/g) were present in 85.7 per cent of TPC and 84.6 per cent of ACP patients. Mean FCT levels as well as the distribution of FCT values were similar in TCP and ACP patients and significantly lower than the two control groups (P less than 0.001). There was also no difference with respect to mean FCT levels between subgroups of TCP patients with and without diabetes and those with and without calcification. Faecal chymotrypsin assay is a simple test for diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis in gastroenterological centres in tropical countries.

RESUMEN

The bull seminal plasma peptides a and β have been examined for their biological properties. While both the peptides were able to inhibit the human chorionic gonadotropin-dependent uterine response in the mouse, a alone exhibits the property of suppressing post-castrational rise in gonadotropin in appropriate animal models. This suggests that the peptide β must be acting directly on the ovary to suppress estrogen production and, consequently, the uterine weight increase. Such a possibility was confirmed when a and β were examined by the coupled bioassay which is capable of discriminating between pituitary feedback factors and those acting directly on the gonad. In a test system designed to examine chronic effects, both a and β showed evidence of acting directly on the ovary to inhibit human menopausal gonadotropin-induced estrogen production. Such a direct action could not be correlated with the relative potencies of these peptides when examined for their follicle stimulating hormone-receptor binding inhibitor and lutinizing hormonereceptor binding inhibitor activities.

RESUMEN

From studies on the release of acid phosphatase and B-glucuronidase, it was observed that quercetin, a vitamin P like compound and ascorbic acid stablise while dehydroascorbate, acetoacetate and B-hydroxybutyrate labilise the leukocytic lysosomes in vitro. These effects were compared with chloroquine and progesterone, known stabiliser and destabiliser, respectively. The possible mode of lysosomal labilisation by ketone bodies and dehydroascorbate has been suggested.
