RESUMEN
Forty cases of uterine rupture that occurred at Durgapur Subdivisional Hospital during 5 years period from January, 1995 to December, 1999 were analysed for clinical observations. The incidence was 1:273; 77.5% were spontaneous, 15% were traumatic, and 7.5% had scar rupture. It was complete in 92.5% cases. Disproportion was responsible in 40% cases and malpresentation in 27.5% cases. Total hysterectomy was done in 30% cases, subtotal in 27.5% cases and rent repair in 42.5% of cases. Overall maternal mortality was 30% of which highest (41.2%) found in rent repair and lowest (16.6%) in total hysterectomy.

McIndoe's method is one of the very popular methods of vaginoplasty. Two cases, with congenital absence of vagina, are reported below where vaginoplasty was done with skin and amniotic membrane grafting respectively, based on the above method and with excellent results. The method is discussed in detail.

Effects of methionine sulphoximine (MSX) on glutamine synthetase activity and ammonia accumulation in the leaves of barley, sorghum and Moricandia arvensis were studied. Glutamine synthetase activity of sorghum leaves was relatively resistant to MSX treatment during initial stages. All the three plant species exhibited considerable accumulation of ammonia arising from non-photorespiratory sources, in response to MSX treatment. Minimal estimates of the rate of glycine decarboxylation were made employing MSX and isonicotinyl hydrazide together in the treatment solution. Changes in the pool sizes of amino acids involved in photorespiratory nitrogen metabolism as affected by MSX have also been investigated.
