RESUMEN
Las investigaciones sobre la forma del arco dental desde principios del siglo XX han demostrado que una estabilidad satisfactoria, después de un tratamiento de ortodoncia, se puede lograr si el ortodoncista se abstiene de alterar significativamente la forma del arco mandibular, ancho intercanino y ancho intermolar del paciente. Así, este estudio tiene como objetivo diseñar una forma de arco ideal para el paciente que se someterá a un tratamiento de ortodoncia. La propuesta de esta investigación es crear una forma de arco ideal para el paciente observando la forma del arco original, analizando la necesidad o no de realizar algunas modificaciones, considerando la forma y los diámetros anterior y posterior del arco mandibular. La recomendación de los autores es mantener la forma original de la arcada, a menos que presente alteraciones significativas. La metodología propuesta es práctica, consiste en superponer los templates (diagramas o plantillas) sobre el modelo de yeso inferior del paciente, en la región anterior, por la zona vestibular de canino a canino, y en la región de molares, en el tercio cervical, ecactamente en el surco gingival. Una vez seleccionada la forma apropiada del arco ortodóntico del paciente, se confeccionarán los arcos sobre el diagrama apropiado que será utilizado al final del alineamiento, en la fase de biomecánica (cierre de espacios) y en la fase de detalles y acabado final...
Research on dental arch form since the early 20th century has shown that a sucessful stability after an orthodontic treatment can be achieved if the orthodontist refrains from significantly altering the patient´s mandibular arch form, intercanine width and intermolar width. Thus, this study aims for devising an ideal archwire form for the patient who is about to undergo an orthodontic treatment. An archwire form that could prove ideal for the patient based on his/her original dental arch form, while determining whether or not to make some changes, considering the form and anterior and posterior diameters of the mandibular dental arch. The author´s recommendation is to keep the original dental arch form, unless it has significant changes. The proposed methodology is practical. It consists in superimposing the templates on the patient´s mandibular cast from canine to canine, and in the molar region in the cervical third, precisely on the gingival sulcus. Once a suitable orthodontic arch form to the patient has been chosen, the archs will be made on the appropiate template that will be used at the end of the alignement phase, in the biomechanics phase (spaces closure)and in the detailing and finishing phase...
