RESUMEN

Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the liver is very rare, and few cases have been reported in Korea. Primary SCC of the liver is known to be associated with hepatic cysts and intrahepatic stones. A 71-year-old male was admitted to our hospital, and a abdominal computed tomography scan revealed a 10 × 6 cm mass in the liver. Analysis of a biopsy sample suggested SCC, and so our team performed a thorough workup to find the primary lesion, which was revealed hepatoma as a pure primary SCC of the liver with multiple distant metastases. The patient was treated with one cycle of radiotherapy, transferred to another hospital for hospice care, and then died 1 month after discharge.

RESUMEN

Lipoma is most common tumor that compromises 4% to 5% of all benign neoplasm, but in oral cavity it is uncommon. In oral cavity, lipoma presents painless, asymptomatic , slow growing, but sometimes it grows to larger size causing deformities, mastication and speech difficulties. While lipoma in commonly affects female patients (68-73%), oral lipoma appears more frequently in male patients. The majority of oral lipoma is seen after the age of forty (uncommon in children). Lipoma of oral cavity and maxillofacial region occurs most commonly in the parotid region, followed by the buccal mucosa, lip, tongue, palate, mouth floor, gingiva in order. A treatment of lesion is surgical excision with recurrence not expected. In this paper we present the case of a patient who has Lipoma in the mouth floor.

RESUMEN

Ameloblastoma is the most frequently accuring odontogenic tumor in mouth. The biologic behavior of this neoplasm is locally invasive tumor with a high rate of recurrence. But in case of unicystic ameloblastoma, it was known that the neoplasm can be treated by marsupialization and the recurrence rate is lower. In our clinic, we tried to treat one of ameloblastoma cases by marsupialization and finished the treatment by enucleation via intra-oral approach with sagittal ramus osteotomy. This is a report of that case about 29 years old female patient.

RESUMEN

The calcifying odontogenic cyst(COC) is considered to occupy a position between a cyst and an odontogenic tumor-having charateristics of both. Gorlin and col. described the COC for first time as an own pathological entity in 1962. Clinically, the COC represents 1% of the odontogenic lesion. It is possible to be found from the first decade to the eight decade but is more frequent during the second decade. It affects in same proportion the maxilla and jaw, being the most in tooth-bearing area of the jaw. This case of COC associated with an unerupted tooth which appeared in the right mandible of 22-year-old woman, was reported. This case report is to present a review of the literature relates to this case of COC and its treatment, discuss clinical, radiographic, histological and therapeutic aspects.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this retrospective study was to compare the morphologic change of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear group and control group by the quantitative analysis. The study groups of patients were; acute ACL tear group (21 patients), chronic ACL tear group (31 patients), and meniscus tear group (20 patients) that undertaken partial meniscectomy. To express curved shape of the PCL quantitatively, the authors made a line (basal line) between the femoral attachment and tib- ial attachment of the PCL and decided the point (apex) that was located most far away from the base line. And the authors made a line (line 1) between the femoral attachment and the apex of the PCL, another line (line 2) between the tibial attachment and the apex of the PCL, and quartered the base line; first quartile, Hl, second quartile, H2, and third quartile, H3. The authors measured the each angle between basal line and line 1 (angle a), between basal line and line 2 (angle b), each height of the PCL at each quartile (Hl, H2, H3) and at the apex of the PCL on the basal line (H4). Three groups were compared and examined which factor was able to decide whether the ACL was ruptured or nnt. Angle a was significantly higher in chronic ACL tear group than acute ACL tear group and meniscus tear group. In conclusion, the PCL of sigmoid or curled up shape is a more constant finding of chronic ACI tear than acute ACL tear.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: TThe purpose of this retrospective study was to demonstrate the characteristic findings of ultrasonogram and the functional result in the surgical excision of the interdigital neuroma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty feet of thirty-five patients with clinical sign and symptoms of interdigital neuromas were examined by ultrasound with a 7.5MHz transducer, In 23 of these patients, surgical excision and pathological analysis of their interdigital masses were subsequently performed. RESULTS: Interdigital neuromas were seen sonographically as well-defined, ovoid, hypoechoic masses located just proximal to the metatarsal heads in the intermetatarsal space. The diameter of neuroma on average was 5.6 mm in the 2nd interspace, 5.4 mm in the 3rd and 4 mm in the 1st. Postoperatively, the satisfactory result was exellent in five (22%), good in twelve (52%), fair in four (17%) and poor in two (9%). CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that ultrasonographic examination is an accurate diagnostic technique, and surgical excision is most effective method of treatment in the view of pain management than other therapeutic modalities in patients with clinically suspected interdigital neuroma.

RESUMEN

Rheumatoid arthritis can result in progressive deformity of the forefoot, which leads to marked limitation in shoe wear, significant pain, and substantial diminution in standing and walking ability. Twenty feet of seventeen patients with severe forefoot deformities underwent surgical correction hy means of first metatarso-phalangeal arthrodesis and resection arthroplasties of the lesser M-P joints from May, I 994 to March, l996. The results were as follows; l. Suhjective improvement in pain, standing and walking ability, and shoe wear was excellent in fifteen (7~5%) feet, good in three (l5%), fair in one (5%), and poor in one (5%) foot. 2. The average hallux valgus angle (HVA), 1st intermetatarsal angle (IMA) were improved from 46.7 and 13.7 to 11. 1 and 8.2 degree individuaIly. 3. The average angle of dorsiflexion after the first metatarsophalangeal (MP) joint arthrodesis was 12.9 degree. 4. Complications of the procedures were minimal; three delayed wound healing, one non-displaced fracture of fusion site due to trauma, one malunion of the 1st MTP joint, one recurrence of the fibular deviation of the lesser toes.
