RESUMEN

Background : The teaching of cytopathology at comparing the diagnosis of cytopathology and hito-pathology, emphasizing female reproductive system and the teaching of basic principles of diagnosis of various significant systems.  For the theoretical part, the usual form of instruction is a lecture, using transparencies as instruction media.  However, for the practical part the students are usually trained to study the normal as well as abnormal cells by looking  through a microscope.  There are several types of instruction media that can be applied to the teaching of either large or small groups of students or individual instruction situation, ones are sound slides.  The present researchers, therefore, have become interested in studying the learning achievement in cytopathology on the subject of the influence of hormone on physiological changes and cytology in females in various conditions, between using sound slides and the conventional teaching method. Objective : To compare the learning achievement of the fourth-year students, Faculty of Associated Medical Science in cytopathology on the influence of hormone of physiological changes and cytopa-tology in various conditions between using sound slides and the conventional teaching method.Method: An experimental study.Setting : Faculty of Associated Medical Science.Subjects : The sample were 80 fourth-year students.Data Collection : The achievement test.Data analysis : By using SPSS for Windows to present  Arithmatic mean; X and Standard deviation; S.D.Results : The results showed that the students in the experimental group gained a significantly higher learning achievement than those in the control group also showed a “good” level of opinion towards teaching with sound slides.Discussion : I producing sound slides for instructional purpose the instructor take the relevant subject content into consideration.  For instance, the content that needs showing a lot of pictures, complicated illustrations or differences between two pictures can be augmented through the application of graphic works to determine the sizes and colors of the letters, to show different background colors, to design a picture that otherwise cannot be displayed by a photograph such as complicated diagrams.  It is suggested that there should be an attempt to facilitate the study of cytopathology in the form of computer-assisted instruction or CAI in order to make the instructor’s teaching task more efficient.Keyword : Sound slide

RESUMEN

Background: Assessment the curriculum is one of the essential factor in education to use the results as a feedback data to manage the education efficiently in accordance with the need of society-- in line with medical education quality assurance. Objectives: To assess the curriculum of the Bachelor of Technology Program in Biomedical Communications as perceived by the students graduating in 2005.Subject and Method: This was descriptive research using both concurrent and analytical evaluations. Seventeen of 2nd-year students  were surveyed on February 2006.   The checklist and the 1-5 Likert’s scale questionnaire were used and developed some categories as research instrument.  The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS V.11.5 and the results were presented as percentages, means and standard deviation.Result:The response rate was 100% (males 76.5%, females 23.5%) whose GPAs ranged between 2.00-2.49 (5.9%), 2.50 - 2.99 (76.5%) and 3.00 - 3.49 (17.6%).   Most students in the 1st year were  more satisfied and in the 2nd year satisfied with the instruction and the curriculum content (3.73±0.61, 3.37±0.62 respectively). The study revealed that most students were satisfied with the program’s arrangement in the general education and more satisfied with specific subject and free elective (3.34±0.70, 4.08±0.53 and 3.97±0.71 respectively). Courses that the students found inappropriate was biostatistics (2.47±1.23)Conclusion: Overall the students were satisfied with the instruction and curriculum in the general education, specific subjects and free elective.   One subject in the general education  was considered inappropriate. An effort should be made, therefore, to make these courses more useful to students of this level.   Finally, the students felt positive about the opportunities to be biomedical communications specialists.Key word: Assessment, curriculum, biomedical communications students, Likert’s scale.
