RESUMEN

Introduction: Two different validated scores are currently used to assess the severity of bronchiectasis: the FACED score and the Bronchiectasis Severity Index (BSI). The study was conducted to evaluate clini-cal etiology in bronchiectasis patients. And to compare the results of the assessment of bronchiectasis severity obtained via FACED and BSI scores. Methods: The study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in the outpatients of the department of respiratory medicine. Detailed clinical history and necessary investigations were done. BSI and the FACED score were calculated. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS package. Results: According to the FACED score, we found 28 patients with mild bronchiectasis, 17 with moder-ate, and 5 with severe bronchiectasis. The frequency of patients with low, intermediate, and high BSI was 24, 21, and 5, respectively. Moreover, we observed a weak but statistically significant association of 43% agreement between FACED and BSI scores: Fisher’s exact test(p=0.399), tau-b de Kendall (-0.123; p = 0.337) and kappa test (0.032; p = 0.878). Conclusions: There is a small but significant correlation between the two scales (BSI and FACED). a ten-dency is observed for patients to be classified with a higher BSI compared to the FACED score.

RESUMEN

Many studies have shown that steatosis, lymphoid aggregates or follicles and bile duct injury on histology are more consistently associated with chronic hepatitis C than chronic hepatitis B. We compared liver biopsies of 30 patients of chronic hepatitis B with an equal number of age matched patients with chronic hepatitis C. Steatosis, lymphoid aggregates or follicles and bile duct injury were noted in 66.6%, 36.6% and 26.6% cases respectively of chronic hepatitis B as compared to 70%, 33.3% and 30% cases respectively of chronic hepatitis C. Thus none of the features were considered distinctive of HCV infection.

RESUMEN

Adrenocorticotrophin secreting cells are identified in the hypophysis of the brown spiny mouse Mus platythrix by conventional methods of light microscopy. Quantitative data showed that certain smaller acidophilic cells in the pars distalis, under conditions provoking their hypersecretion such as unilateral adrenalectomy and metopirone treatment, increase in number and size from the pre-existing corticotrophs. There is no evidence for the transmigration of these cells from the chromophobes, basophils or any other cell type. The pars intermedia revealed two types of cells of which the type II cells are histochemically identical to adrenocorticotrophin secreting cells of the pars distalis.

RESUMEN

The degenerative changes in the spermatids as measured by changes in fine structure abnormalities increased with time following injection of Cd2+ into rat testis. The spermatids in the twelve hours group appear as peculiarly club shaped and elongated structures with one or two small but perceptible vacuoles. The subacrosomal area and the space between the nucleus and the middle piece are seen abnormally dilated. In the 30 day group, the central filaments are the most susceptible unit of 9+2 axoneme complex. The plasma membrane, the cytoplasmic matrix, the mitochondria of the middle piece and the fibrous sheath appear shrunken, discontinuous and degenerative.
