Development of Tabla Literature.

Percussion instruments have a special significance in the history of Indian instruments and instrumental music. Indian percussion instruments, in terms of their diversity, their qualitative characteristics and the variety sounds they produce, are not only astounding, but appreciable too. Tablā literature, in its own glory, has evolved from the vast sea of the multitude of sounds born out of the instrument. However, tablā literature, as contrasted to conventional literature, has its own tradition. The present discussion is an attempt to present this unique tradition.
