RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between anger expression and self-esteem in nursing college students. METHODS: A total of 297 subjects aged between 18 and 28 were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected from March 2 to 25, 2011 using a self-reporting questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 15.0. RESULTS: Differences in anger expression according to general characteristics were as follows. There were significant differences in violent attitude depending on gender (t=3.003, p<.01). Violent actions differed significantly depending on year in school (F=3.279, p<.05) and whether there is a dual income families (t=-2.23, p<.05). There were significant differences in self-esteem depending on year in school (F=4.553, p<.01), school record (F=15.18, p<.001) and the economic status of the parents (F=4.878, p<.01). There were positive correlations between violent attitude and violent actions, except between violent actions and self-esteem. 10.3% of the variance in violent actions was explained by violent attitude, self-esteem and school in year and perceived acceptance. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study may be useful in understanding the anger expression of nursing college students and developing more specific programs to improve personality and self-control of the mind.

RESUMEN

The development of myolysis has allowed number of gynecologic surgeons to treat myoma instead of hysterectomy or myomectomy. However not long time has passed since this operation started, little studies were conducted on this complication and side effect. Especially, there are not enough studies about complication and prognosis related pregnancy after myolysis. One of these complications, uterine rupture during pregnancy is not frequent, but fatal condition to both mother and fetus. We report a case of uterine rupture that occurred in early second-trimester who had been myolysis 22 months before pregnancy.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: We reviewed the incidence, causes, location, treatment and prognosis of the severe iatrogenic ureteral avulsions caused by ureteroscopy procedures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed the records of eight patients with ureteral avulsion out of 683 patients treated with ureteroscopic procedures, retrospectively. The patients had surgical correction or ureteral double-J stenting for the iatrogenic ureteral avulsions. RESULTS: The incidence of ureteral avulsion was 1.17%. While seven cases occurred during ureteroscopic removal of a stone, five cases among them occurred during stone basketing and two cases occurred during insertion of the ureteroscope. Another case among eight avulsion cases occurred while removing the during an endopyelotomy for a ureteral stricture. Depending on the length of the ureteral avulsion, four cases were over 2cm, the patientsopen surgical repair for ureteral continuity restoration immediately; three cases, under 2cm, were treated with indwelling ureteral double J stents, and one case with an injury to the entire ureter was treated with a nephrectomy. The result of the surgical treatment as the initial treatment was good in all cases. On the other hand, among the three cases with an inserted ureteral double-J stent, one case had aresult and the other two developed hydronephrosis. CONCLUSION: Careful attention to surgical techniques and awareness of risk factors and types of potential injuries are essential to reduce severe iatrogenic ureteral avulsions. Our reports suggest that open surgical repair is better than an indwelling ureteral double-J stent for patients with a ureteral avulsion.

RESUMEN

Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) is a subtype of female urogenital fistula. VVF is an abnormal fistulous tract extending between the bladder and the vagina that allows the continuous involuntary leakage of urine into the vaginal canal. In addition to the medical sequelae from these fistulas, they often have a profound effect on the patient's emotional well-being. In the past it was mostly by obstetric causes. But now a days, posthysterectomy fistulas are most commonly seen. In 1914, Latzko published his partial colpocleisis technique for repair of posthysterectomy VVF, in which he employed the resection of scarred vaginal mucosa and a layered horizontal closure. Latzko's procedure has been cited, with his 95-100% success rates noted. Recently we experienced a case of huge vesicovaginal fistula. The patient is a 67-year-old woman with a history of constant urine leakage. The problem began after she had undergone total abdominal hysterectomy 30 years ago for uterine ruture. We repaired it by Latzko partial colpocleisis.

RESUMEN

This study was done to evaluate whether vital bleaching agents could influence on the translucency of the bovine enamel. The anterior bovine teeth that were extracted one day before and without any gross discoloration were obtained and then were preserved in physiologic saline. 6 mm cylindrical tooth specimens were fabricated with diamond puncher perpendicularly on labial surface of bovine tooth. After embedded in transparent acrylic resin with labial surface being exposed, they were cut to a thickness of 1.2 mm with low speed diamond saw (Isomat, Buehler Co., Lake Bluff, IL, USA). They were smoothly ground to 1 mm thickness of enamel with sandpaper. 24 specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups and control group respectively. Opalescence (10% carbamide peroxide, Ultradent, South Jordan, USA), Rembrandt (10% carbamide peroxide, DenMat, USA) and Opalescence F (15% carbamide peroxide with fluoride, Ultradent, USA) were applied on labial sides of the bovine enamel for 7 days (bleaching agents were reapplied every 24 hours) and the opposite surface was contacted to cotton that soaked in distilled water. The control group was soaked in distilled water. Three stimulus value X, Y and Z were evaluated with colorimeter (Color & Color Differencemeter, Model TC-6FX, Tokyo Denshoku Co., Japan) on the labial surface of all specimen three times on white and black background plate before the bleaching agents were applied and on 3rd, 5th and 7th day after applied. The degree of translucency was normally assessed by measuring the inverse property, opacity (contrast ratio). 10% Opalescence, 15% Opalescence-F, and control group showed no significant variation in the translucency of bovine enamel, However Rembrandt decreased the translucency of it (p < 0.01).

RESUMEN

A novel glucanhydrolase from Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 has been suggested as a promising anti-plaque agent because it has been shown to have additional amylase activity and mutanase activity besides dextranase activity and to strongly bind to hydroxyapatite. Mouthrinsing with Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 glucanhydrolase solution was comparable to 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthwash in inhibition of plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation and local side effects were less frequent and less intense in human experimental gingivitis. In this study, Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 glucanhydrolase mouthrinses (1 and 2 unit/ml) were compared with a control mouthrinse (commercial 0.01% benzethonium chloride mouthrinse, Caregargle(R), Hanmi Pharmaceuticals) in the ability to inhibit plaque formation. A 3-replicate clinical trial using 4-day plaque regrowth model was used. Fifteen volunteers were rendered plaque-free on the 1st day of each study period, ceased toothcleansing, and rinsed 2X daily with allocated mouthrinse thereafter. On day 5, plaque accumulation was scored and the washout periods was 9 days for the next trial. Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 glucanhydrolase(1 unit and 2 unit)- containing mouthrinse resulted in significantly lower plaque formation in plaque area and thickness, compared to the control mouthrinse. There was no significant difference in plaque inhibition between enzyme-mouthrinses at 2 different concentrations used. This glucanhydrolase- containing mouthwash resulted in significantly lower plaque area severity index score and tended to have lower plaque thickness severity index score than those of control mouthrinse. But there was no significant difference according to the enzyme concentration. From these results, Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 glucanhydrolase-containing benzethonium chloride mouthrinse has greater anti-plaque effect than the commercial mouthrinse alone. Therefore this glucanhydrolase preparation is a promising agent for new mouthwash formulation in the near future.

RESUMEN

The aim of the present study was to investigate the interaction of estradiol-17beta-bovine serum albumin (E2-BSA) and calcitropic hormones, such as parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, and vitamin D, in regulation of Ca2+ uptake in primary cultured renal proximal tubule cells. Statistically significant increase in Ca2+ uptake was found from 2 hours after E2-BSA (10(-9) M) treatment, while estradiol-17beta (10(-9) M) did not affect. Treatment of the cells with E2-BSA (10(-9) M) together with parathyroid hormone (PTH) (10(-8) M), vitamin D (10(-8) M), or calcitonin (10(-8) M) significantly stimulated Ca2+ uptake by 32.50%, 29.30%, or 27.75%, respectively, compared with the control. However, calcitropic hormones did not exhibit any synergistic effect on the E2-BSA-induced stimulation. E2-BSA significantly increased cAMP generation and PKC activity. The stimulatory effect of cotreatment of E2-BSA and PTH or vitamin D was blocked by SQ22536 (an adenylate cyclase inhibitor) and staurosporine (a PKC inhibitor), but the effect of cotreatment of E2-BSA and calcitonin was not blocked. Furthermore, 8-Br-cAMP and TPA (an artificial PKC promoter) increased Ca2+ uptake by 25.51% and 16.47%, respectively, compared with the control. In conclusion, E2-BSA combined with calcitropic hormones regulated Ca2+ uptake partially via cAMP and PKC-dependent mechanisms in renal proximal tubule cells.

RESUMEN

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a recently redefined category of malignant lymphoma that has been indivisualized under different names, because of classifications, such as the Working Formulation, fail to recognize it. In the Working Formulation, MCL is classified as diffuse small cleaved cell lymphoma most frequently. Immunophenotyping has a tremendous value in diagnosis of MCL and adds the accuracy of diagnosis. It more commonly arises in peripheral lymph nodes, but in colon, usually presents as a diffuse infiltration, known as multiple lymphomatous polyposis and lymphomatous polyposis can be regarded as the intestinal form of MCL. We recently experienced a case of recurrent MCL presented with a peculiar feature of intestinal lymphomatous polyposis in a 57-year old male patient. He had been diagnosed diffuse small cleaved cell lymphoma of tonsil and treated by CHOP chemotherapy. He developed a recurrence in stomach, colon, liver, spleen and bone marrow after 16 months in complete remission. We could confirm the previously diagnosed lymphoma of tonsil as MCL by adding immunophenotyping with cyclin D1 and CD5. He received salvage chemotherapy and responded partially. We report a case of MCL relapse in the form of intestinal lymphomatous polyposis and literatures are reviewed.
