RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to investigate the tendencies and awareness of the doping of the Korea national disabled athletes who participated in Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games. The subjects were composed of Korea national athletes (211 person, male 141 person, female 70 person) participated in 16 sports in Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games. Firstly, the data were collected by questionnaires measure including doping knowledge, behavior and attitude (performance enhancement attitude scale, PEAS) and analyzed using SPSS ver. 18.0 for window. The results indicate that female athletes tend to be more generous than men tendencies to for doping (p=0.027). Especially the aged groups showed significant differences in over fifty athletes (p=0.016). The PEAS score according to the sports type showed a generous doping tendency in speed/power type (p=0.01). Furthermore 43% of athletes acquire knowledge of the doping from Sports Association, directors, coaches, while Korea Anti-Doping Agency was lower by 23%. In conclusion, We need to provide education and information to improve awareness of doping for the national team players and coaches.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To obtain clinical usefulness of knee extension- flexion exercise by comparing the exercise indexes between treadmill exercise and knee extension-flexion exercise and to collect reference of exercise indexes using knee extension-flexion exercise. METHOD: Sixty four young healthy subjects participated in two modes of exercise. Subjects performed exercise using isokinetic dynamometer in one leg knee extension-flexion exercise and treadmill running using Bruce protocol in treadmill exercise. We recorded oxygen consumption, heart rate during rest and exercise. RESULTS: When comparing exercise indexes using treadmill exercise, we obtained relative exercise indexes using knee extension-flexion exercise, male 15.96%, female 15.77% in work rate, male 48.46%, female 52.53% in peak oxygen consumption, male 73.57%, female 80.82% in peak heart rate, male 65.97%, female 65.20% in oxygen pulse, male 56.07%, female 62.50% in peak tidal volume, male 82.56%, female 82.53% in peak respiratory rate, male 47.79%, female 49.48% in peak minute ventilation. In dynamic variables, we obtained male 266.82%, female 292.98% in ratio increase in oxygen consumption to increase in work rate. CONCLUSION: Knee extension-flexion exercise showed enough response to evaluate cardiorespiratory function through low work rate. Therefore knee extension-flexion exercise may be used for an exercise tolerance test in patients who cannot perform established exercise tolerance test.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To find out the characteristics of foot pressure in children with mild spastic diplegic cerebral palsy over 7 years old compared with those of normal children. METHOD: Twenty children with mild spastic diplegic cerebral palsy and fourteen normal children over 7 years old articipated in this study. The foot was divided into 7 portions and then foot contact area, pressure of each foot portion and pathway of center of pressure (COP) were measured and analyzed by F-scan system (Tekscan Inc., USA) RESULTS: In children with cerebral palsy, first metatarsal area MET1) showed the highest relative impulse followed by MET2/3, hindfoot and hallux. Relative impulse of hallux, MET1 and medial midfoot were significantly higher in cerebral palsied than in normal children, while that of hindfoot was significantly lower in cerebral palsied than in normal children. Anteroposterior ratio of COP and gait velocity were significantly lower in cerebral palsied than in normal children. CONCLUSION: The characteristics of foot pressure distribution and the pathway of COP in children with mild spastic diplegic cerebral palsy were identified by quantitative analysis by F-scan system. Foot scan could be used for eval uating the foot pathology in children with cerebral palsy during gait.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To provide informations on contributing factors analysis for the driving status in spinal cord injured people through basic statistics from an analysis of the survey results. METHOD: The survey was administered to 121 spinal cord injured persons with no evidence of head injury. Subjects were divided to driver group and non-driver group and compared to their general charateristics, neurologic characteristics, status of activity of daily living (ADL). Logistic regression was used to analyze contributing factors for the driving status. RESULTS: Forty-four (36.4%) of 121 respondents were driving and among them male drivers were 35 (79.6%). The average age and the age at the time of injury were lower in the driver group than non-driver group. Among complete lesions, C7 was the highest level who could drive independently. The mean score of ADL was significantly higher in the driver group than non-driver group. The significant factors that affect the driving of spinal cord injured persons were sex, age, age at the time of injury, Frankel type, motor score, jobs after their injury, compensations for their accidents, means of ambulation, sports activities, and ADL status. Especilly significant factors were age at the time of injury, means of ambulation, ADL status. CONCLUSION: We suggested that the driver training should be an essential part of the rehabilitaion program for the spinal cord injured people to maximize their quality of life in the community.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to investigate the effect of the rectal electrical stimulation in patients with neurogenic bowel due to SCI. METHOD: Twelve patients with SCI who have the symptoms of neurogenic bowel were recruited as subjects. Before and after electrical stimulation, anorectal angle and anal pressure was measured. RESULTS: 1. There was a reverse correlation between pre- electrical stimulation anorectal angle and colon transit time in rectosigmoid segment (p<0.05). 2. Anal pressure of post-electrical stimulation was significantly decreased compared with that of pre-electrical stimulation (p<0.05). 3. Anorectal angle of post-electrical stimulation was significantly increased compared with that of pre-electrical stimulation (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: This study suggested that rectal electrical stimulation for neurogenic bowel in patients with SCI could be helpful defecation method for bowel emptying.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To find out the changes of the plantar pressure distribution of foot and the pathway of center of pressure (COP) in normal preschool children with age. METHOD: Thirty-eight normal children aged 1 to 6 were participated in this study. We divided into three groups according to the age. Foot contact area, pressure of the foot and pathway of COP were measured using F-scan in-shoe measuring system (Tekscan Inc.) during the gait. RESULTS: The ratio of midfoot contact width to forefoot contact width was decreased with age (p<0.05). And the relative pressure of the medial midfoot was decreased with age (p<0.05). In the analysis of COP, the ratio of anteroposterior length of COP to total contact length was significantly increased (p<0.05), and the ratio of mediolateral width of COP to forefoot contact width was tend to decrease. CONCLUSION: We can identify the characteristics and changes of the foot pressure distribution and the pathway of COP in preschool children with normal foot using F-scan system. These quantitative data of foot scan are useful for evaluating the foot pathology in preschool children during the gait.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the kinematic data and energy consumption of domestic swing and stance phase (SNS) control knee assembly in transfemoral amputees. METHOD: Five male transfemoral amputees took prosthetic training of more than one week and evaluated with random applying 3 types of knee assembly; mechanical type, pneumatic type, and domestic SNS type. Kinematic data was obtained by the VICON 370 system (Oxford Metrics Ltd., UK.). Energy consumption was measured using a KB1-C (Aerosport Inc, U.S.A). RESULTS: Domestic SNS type showed a significantly increased walking speed, cadence and step length compared with mechanical type and pneumatic type (p<0.05). Domestic SNS type showed a significantly increased maximal hip flexion and extension compared with mechanical type and pneumatic type (p<0.05). Domestic SNS type showed decreased peak knee flexion at swing phase and significantly increased peak knee extension at stance phase compard with mechanical type and pneumatic type (p<0.05). In energy consumption, the domestic SNS type tended to show a lower O2 cost and faster walking speed than the mechanical type and pneumatic type at free-walking. CONCLUSION: We concluded the domestic SNS type had more tendency toward a normal gait pattern and lower energy consumption compared with mechanical type and pneumatic type.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to collect the informations on the current status and the needs of the physically disabled elderlies in the rural community along with the prevalence rate of these population. One study group for the study of disability status evaluation was 139 physically disabled elderlies living in the main island of Kangwha, and the other group for the study on prevalence of disability was 542 elderlies living in Songhae myun. The prevalence of physical disability was 6.5% in Songhae myun. The neurologic disorder was the most frequent diagnosis among the physically disabled elderlies followed by the musculoskeletal disorder. The time for the medical service delivery was delayed; 45.3% of the subjects received medical service more than one month after the onset of disability. Only 18.0% of the disabled elderlies received the public disability service, and 15.8% of the subjects was waiting for further service. The most common need from the subjects was the medical service, followed by the service from the institution such as a nursing home and the financial support. Registration rate of the disabled was very low(7.7%). There were only three physical therapists for the rehabilitation services in studies areas. This study revealed that the public concepts for the disability and the rehabiltation service were inadequate. We hope that this basic data can be used for the planning of rehabilitation services in this community.
