RESUMEN

67.2% of 198 workers working in the press of the Ministry of Education had sick leaves during the year 1985. The annual average number of spells per worker was 2.2 [3.1 spells for females and 1.7 spells for males], while the annual average number of days lost per worker because of sick leave was 4.6 days [six days for females and 3.9 spells for males]. However the lowest average was among administrative people [1.3 spells and 4.1 days respectively]. The highest percentages of days lost were due to work accidents [19.6%] followed by dental diseases [15.3%] and gastrointestinal diseases [10.5%]. There were no significant differences [P>0.05] between the number of days lost when examined according to their distribution among the months of the year

RESUMEN

During the year 1984, there were 224 accidents due to work in the electrical, mechanical and presses sector of labour in Iraq. This made an average of 3.3 accidents per 1000 workers in this section. The highest percentage of accidents [16%] was due to electric current, upper extremeties showed the highest percentage of the body exposed to such injuries 52.7% in particular, the fingers of the hand [48 out of 68accidents]. 24% of the injuries were wound type accidents. There were significant differences [P< 0.01] in the occurrence of accidents between male and female workers, between Iraqi and Arab workers, between skilled and unskilled workers, between the hours of the day and between different months of the year, while there were no significant difference [P>0. 1] in the occurrence of accidents between different provinces or between days of the week

RESUMEN

In the first quarter of the year 1983 there were 305 road traffic accidents [RTA] in Saddam City. The number of people injuried in those accidents were 144 persons, in, which 47.8% were below 14 years of age. 79.9% of the accidents were runover, the highest percentage [35.3%] of the accidents occur among governmental cars, 34% of the drivers were in the army services at the time of accidents. The number of accidents varies during the hours of the day but there was no appearent differences between the number of accidents among the days of the week. Also there were differences between the age of drivers for the occurrence of RTA but such differences did not exist between the age of injured persons

RESUMEN

In 1984 there were 390 accidents due to work in the Oil and Petrochemical sector of labour work in Iraq. This made an average of 6.5 accidents per 1000 workers in this section. 60% of injured workers were unskilled, 27.9% of accidents were wound injuries, upper extremeties showed the highest percentage [37.2%] of such injuries. Falling object form the main cause of injuries [21.2%]. There were significant differences [P< 0.001] in the occurrence of accidents between different provinces also between male and female workers [P < 0.01]. There was significant difference in the occurrence of the accidents between the hours of the day, days of the week and different months of the year [P < 0.01]

RESUMEN

In 1983 there were 209 accidents to work at 13 textile factories. This made the rate of accidents per 1000 workers 13.9. There were significant differences [P < 0.01] between different factories in the occurrence of accidents but not between male and female [p> 0.05]. The percentage of the workers who were injuried was increased as their age and length of service Increased. Skilled workers showed more accidents than unskilled workers. Wounds from 45.5% of the accidents and most of them were in the right thumb [17.8%]. The highest percentage of injuries was observed in the Tuft Carpet Dept, and Wooven Carpet Dept. No statistical significant difference was observed between the number of accidents and the month of the year nor the time of occurrence of accident [P> 0.05]

RESUMEN

White collar people at the Diary Enterprise showed no significant differences [P <0. 1] in having sick leaves during the three years of the study [1981- 1983], while such differences [P< 0.01] exist between male and female white collar people, and among same people of different qualifications. 52% of white collar people have only one sick leave in a year and 39% have either two or three while only 2% have more than five sick leaves in a year. The inception rate was 1.9 spells and the average days lost year was 6.5 days. The rate of sick leave were more among females white collar people, However, the pattern of rate were increased as age progress for both sexes. The highest percentage [46%] of sick leave was due to upper respiratory diseases. No significant [P< 0. 1] differences were found between the spells when tested against the month of the year but such differences [P < 0.01] were existing when the spells tested against the day of the week on the assumption that the spells were normally distributed among the month of the year or the day of the week
