RESUMEN

Background: Dental caries is one of the most common infectious diseases which occurs during early childhood and continues to be major public problem. Establishing healthy dietary habits right from a very young age not only improves the oral health but is essential for a child’s growth and development. Since parents are the main caregivers and prime regulators of child’s dietary intake, they play an important role in shaping child’s oral hygiene habits. Hence it is necessary for them to be aware of the right nutrition, right oral hygiene modalities and frequent dental visits for the betterment of child’s overall health. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among parents of children visiting to Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry KAHER’s KLE VK Institute of dental sciences, Belagavi. Subjects were selected according to inclusion criteria. This study was a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study conducted among parents about dietary habits and its relation to oral health in children. Results: This study shows the statistically significant results with effect among parents about awareness of dietary habits and its relation to oral health in children. Conclusions: With the results it can be concluded that children who had parents with low knowledge scores were more likely to experience caries and have poor oral hygiene.

RESUMEN

Background: There are different types of adhesives and resins available today for the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity. Literature search showed fewer comparative studies using gluma desensitizing agent and diode laser (940nm) in the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity. Hence, the aim of present study is to compare the efficacy of gluma desensitizing agent and diode laser (940 nm) in the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity. Methods: Patients were selected using VAS scale and randomly divided into group 1 (gluma) and group 2 (diode laser). Gluma and laser treatment was done for the patients on the contralateral sides. The follow up was done at an interval of 1 month and 3 months. Results: Statistically significant difference was seen in intra group comparison for both gluma and laser treatment but no statistically significant difference was seen in the intergroup comparison of both the groups. Conclusions: Both gluma and diode laser treatment were found to be equally effective for the treatment of dentinal hypersensitivity.

RESUMEN

Background: Effective oral hygiene is a crucial factor in maintaining good oral health, which is associated with overall health and health-related quality of life. The control of biofilm is the common pillar of the prevention and control of periodontal disease. The interdental brush (IDB) currently represents the primary and most effective method available for interproximal cleaning compared with brushing alone or the combined use of tooth brushing and dental floss. Methods: A total of 40 participants, with 10 each in control and test group, participated in the study. Clinical examination of gingival index, full mouth bleeding scores and plaque index were recorded supra gingival scaling was performed. Test group- interdental brushes were given and oral hygiene instructions were given through Touch-to Teach method (TOP). At 4 week and 6 week follow up oral hygiene instructions were repeated to respective groups. After 3 months, clinical examination was done and exit survey on patient-reported outcome measures was administered. Results: Intergroup comparison of gingival index, plaque index and pocket probing depth showed statistically significant difference between test and control group. Conclusions: Within the limitations of the study, we concluded that the appropriate use of interdental brushes along with effective oral hygiene maintenance using TOP permitted proper cleaning of the area with a significant reduction in plaque and gingivitis.
