RESUMEN

We measured the lens thickness and anterior chamber depth on 214 eyes (162 cataract eyes, 52 normal control eyes) using the EAS-1000 Scheimpflug camera. And the results was compared with measurement of A-scan ultrasonography in 49 cataract eyes. The thickness of cataract lens, especially in anterior subcapsular opacities in over 61 years old was significantly thin rather than control lens (p0.05). Lens thickness was increased with age by an annual rate of 0.0l5mm in monnal eyes (p

RESUMEN

Vitreous hemorrhage acounted for 64 patients(67 eyes) seen during a eighteenmonth period from March 1, 1987, to August 31, 1988. In order of decreasing frequency, the major causes were diabetic retinopathy(19.4%), trauma(l1.9%), silent retinal tear(10.4%). retinal branch vein occlusion(7.5%), acute posterior vitreous detachment(7.5%), Eales' disease(6%), Hypertension(6%), central retinal vein occlusion(4.4%). And the minor causes were rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(3%), retinal angioma(3%), chronic renal failure(3%), subretinal neovascularization(1.5%), disc neovascularization with undetermined cause(1.5%). No cause could be determined in 14.9% of the cases.

RESUMEN

Recently a great deal of attention has been focused on increasing corneal preservation time, and chondroitin sulfate in corneal preservation media can prolong corneal preservation time. So far evaluation of the effectiveness of this and some additives have been based on determining the state of the cornea at the end of the preservation period. We have accomplished this by monitoring in vitro the transendothelial electrical potential difference across deepithelialized rabbit cornea. We found that corneas stored in basal salt plus glucose containing chondroitin sulfate maintained higher transendothelial potential difference than corneas stored in the same solutions without chondroitin sulfate. The beneficial effects of chondroitin sulfate were opthimal at the 1% concentration.

RESUMEN

Orbital emphysema is a well-known concomitant of fracture of the paranasal sinuses involving the orbit. The important clinical distinction lies in the presence of proptosis. This is found in the variety of emphysema confined to the orbit without communication with the lids. The rise in intraorbital pressure, which occurs when air enters the orbit, causes the proptosis. Authors have recently experienced a rare case of complete protrusion of the eyeball caused by orbital emphysema after contusion on occipital area of skull due to fall-down in 10 month-old korean girl. The eyeball was completely exposed out of the lid margin. The case report is reviewed with the several literatures.
