RESUMEN

Hyperplastic polyposis is a loosely defined syndrome initially thought not to confer a clinically important predisposition to colorectal cancer. However, number of reports have been made of individuals with this condition who have developed colorectal carcinoma. We report here the case of a 60 years old woman with adenocarcinoma of the rectum who underwent a right hemicolectomy. More than 50 sessile polyps where found. The histologic examination revealed the hyperplastic nature of these polyps. One of them was a serrated adenoma. Hyperplastic polyposis is rare and is associated with an increased cancer risk. The patients need to be followed with successive endoscopies
