RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to identify to identify the nursing needs and stress levels among spouses of women hospitalized with preterm labor, and to determine factors influencing spousal stress.METHODS: Data were collected from 95 spouses of hospitalized pregnant women due to preterm labor at a hospital in Gyeonggi province from June to December of 2016. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression.RESULTS: The mean score of spouses' nursing needs was 3.06±0.42 and stress was 1.85±0.44 out of 4.00. The highest score of nursing needs was 3.37±0.51 in assurance and the highest score for stress was 2.26±0.72 for patient's illness and prognosis. There was a significant positive correlation between stress in spouse and nursing needs (p=.004). Stress was explained by nursing needs (β=.28) and hospitalization days (β=.21).CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that appropriate nursing interventions are required to address the nursing needs at the beginning of hospitalization and to reduce the stress among spouses of hospitalized pregnant women diagnosed with preterm labor.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to identify the relationship between quality of life (QoL) and psychosocial factors of schizophrenia patients registered in a community mental health center. METHODS: The ninety patients with schizophrenia, diagnosed by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fourth Edition-Text Revision, registered in a community mental health center were studied cross-sectionally. Four trained personnels interviewed each subject individually for the assessment of QoL, psychopathology, severity of depressed mood, insight of illness, attitude toward drugs, social function, degree of social supports and conflicts. RESULTS: QoL was significantly related to the psychopathology, depressed mood, social conflict, social support; and other aspects of QoL were slightly differently related to depressed mood, social conflict, social support and attitude toward drug by scales. In multiple regression analysis, depressed mood (20.0%) and social conflict (10.3%) were contributed to QoL assessed by Korean version of 4th revision of Schizophrenia Quality of Life. Social support (21.4%), social conflict (20.9%) and depressed mood (3.1%) were contributed to QoL assessed by Korean modification of the Scale to measure Subjective Well-being under Neuroleptic treatment. CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrated that QoL of schizophrenia patients in a community is affected by depressed mood, social support and conflict rather than psychotic symptoms, insight and attitude toward drugs. And this result suggests the necessity of approaching not only to the psychotic symptoms but also to the psychosocial characteristics in caring schizophrenia patients in the community.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES : Theory of mind (ToM) is the ability to conceptualize other people's mental states in order to explain their behavior. This study compared the ToM ability of schizophrenia patients, their first-degree biological relatives, and healthy controls. METHODS : ToM animation test was administered to schizophrenia patients (N=28), their healthy first-degree relatives (N=26), and healthy controls (N=28). The Korean version of schizotypal personality questionnaire (SPQ) was used to assess the schizotypal personality trait of all three groups. RESULTS : Schizophrenia patients and their first-degree relatives showed decreased accuracy on ToM animation test compared to healthy controls [F(2,78)=29.75, p<.001]. Additionally, first-degree relatives performed worse than the control group and better than schizophrenia patients. First-degree relatives had similar SPQ scores compared to healthy controls but showed decreased ToM accuracy compared to healthy controls. CONCLUSION : ToM deficits in schizophrenia patients are apparent. The ToM deficit in first-degree relatives of schizophrenia patients raises the possibility that ToM deficit may be a endophenotype for schizophrenia pathology.

RESUMEN

Distributions of angle kappa and of cycloplegic refraction and their association were studied. The subjects were 282 nonstrabismic Korean children, aged from 6 years to 11 years. who visited Ewha Women University Hospital from December 1990 to March 1991. The angle kappa was measured by major amblyoscope, and refraction was done under the cycloplegic state. The results were as follows: The frequency of angle kappa was positive. negative and 0 degree in decreasing order. The average values of refractive error and angle kappa were -1.03 +/- 2.20 degrees dipter and +1 34 +/- 1.33 degrees. The average values of angle kappa for hypermetropia, emmettopia and myopia were +2.52 +/- 0.81 degrees, +1.71 +/- 1.03 degrees and +0.90 +/- 1.37 degrees. And these values were significantly different from each other.

RESUMEN

Aniridia is a congenital, often hereditary, usually bilateral absence of iris in whole or in part. And aniridia occurs mainly as an autosomal dominant condition with almost complete penetrance. In the usual phenotype, aniridia is associated with nystagmus, foveal and optic nerve hypoplasia, corneal pannus, cataract, secondary glaucoma and strabismus. The author experienced 4 cases of aniridia in a family for three generations. So the author reports these cases with the review of literathure.
