RESUMEN

This paper includes discussion of current clinical and therapeutic aspects of more common of the malignant tumors of the eyelid, the conjunctivocornea, and the lacrimal system. In the eyelid, 85-95% of the malignant tumors are basal cell carcinomas and only 5% are squamous cell carcinomas; in the conjunctiva, this ratio is almost completely reversed. However, it appears from the few available reports that the relative incidence of these tumors may not follow this pattern in Pakistan. Malignant melanoma, sebaceous carcinoma, intraepithelial neoplasia and adenocarcinoma also receive appropriate comments. It is interesting that a Pakistani author published the first detailed report of an adenocystic carcinoma of the lacrimal sac and duct in the world literature. Also in Pakistan intraepithelial neoplasia of the conjunctiva, usually a tumor found in adults and the elderly, may be seen in children. Routinely, the sebaceous carcinomas require more extensive procedures, but in one patient cure followed adequate local excision of a sebaceous carcinoma of the tarsus in early stages

RESUMEN

A community study of 1,274 pregnant women was conducted to elicit their response to the current pregnancy. These women were registered with the MCH/FP service outlet, so most of them came to the health centre, Otherwise contact was established at their homes. The response of the pregnant respondent was analyzed with reference to per capita monthly income, education of the mother, her age and gravidity status. Depending upon the social variable studied, 24.96% to 37.52% of the women did not want the current pregnancy. From the available data it is concluded that lower income, lower educational status of the mother, higher parity and higher age were associated with higher incidence of unwanted pregnancy. The study reveals that inspite of being poor and illiterate a married Pakistani woman likes to limit the number of pregnancies with reference to her age and gravidity. Moreover, she is quite conscious of socio-economic indicators as judged by her response to her income and her educational status. The proportion of women, who do not desire a pregnancy is large and must be actively assisted to prevent an unwanted pregnancy because of social, medical and humanitarian reasons
