RESUMEN

Three groups of dogs were used. In group I, dogs injected with 8 mg/kg I/V propofol without premedication. The mean duration of anesthesia was 12.3 +/- 1.19 minutes. In group II, dogs injected with 4 mg/kg propofol I/V after premedication with 0.05 mg/kg atropine and 1 mg/kg xylazine I/V. The mean duration of anesthesia was 28.3 +/- 1.55 minutes. In group III, dogs injected with 4 mg/kg propofol I/V after premedication with 0.05 mg atropine, 1 mg/kg xylazine and 0.2 mg/kg diazepam I/V. The mean duration of anesthesia was 41 +/- 1.27 minutes. It was noticed that premedication effectively increased the duration of anesthesia. Maintenance of anesthesia was carried out by injection of 2 mg/kg propofol I/V in groups II and III. The duration of anesthesia and recovery was increased. The mean recovery times were 17 +/- 0.72, 15 +/- 1.25 minutes, respectively. However, propofol anesthesia and maintenance showed significant decreases [P <0.05] in rectal temperature and respiratory rates, heart rates remained within physiologic limits. Hematologic values showed significant decrease [P <0.05] in PCV, RBCs and WBCs counts from the base line values. Satisfactory smooth induction of anesthesia, maintenance and recovery were obtained in dogs under various surgical procedures

RESUMEN

A case of uterine rupture and ectopic pregnancy in a mare was diagnosed. The physical examination showed an alert and responsive animal. The rectal examination revealed a nearly full term alive fetus in the abdominal cavity still surrounded by all of the placental membranes. Vaginal examination showed a widely dilated and an empty uterus. After examination abdominal contraction became more stronger, and uterine prolapse occurred. An incision was made in the prolapsed uterus to pull the fetus out, and hysterectomy was performed

RESUMEN

Canine panostitis was diagnosed in 27 male German shepherd and other large dogs at different ages. Clinical signs included shifting leg lameness and pain reaction when applying pressure on the affected long bones. Hematological findings showed no significant eosinophilia of the afflicted dogs. The sailent radiographic features of the disease revealed minute or focal radiodensities in the medullary cavity of long bones, accompanied with thickening of endosteum and periosteum. Histopathologically findings showed fibroblastic and osteoblastic activities and no evidence of inflammatory cell infiltration. Canine panostitis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of lameness in young large breed of dogs
