RESUMEN

Fusion of the zygomatic bone to the coronoid process of the mandible is a rare phenomenon reported in the literature and commonly called as zygomaticocoronoid ankylosis. It can be sequel of trauma or infection in the midfacial region, mimicking a wide range of problems including the common temporomandibular joint ankylosis and dysfunction. Maxillofacial trauma involving the displaced fracture of zygoma can obstruct the movement of coronoid and if not treated can cause ankylosis between both bones. It is very diffi cult to identify zygomaticocoronoid ankylosis on conventional radiographs and requires the through clinical and advanced radiological evaluation like cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) to diagnose it. CBCT can be a great help to identify the size and extension of ankylotic mass and decide the approach to remove it. Zygomaticocoronoid ankylosis can be approached intraorally by Keen’s incision, and extraorally through a hemicoronal approach we have approached intraorally. Here, we present surgical management of post-traumatic zygomaticocoronoid ankylosis in 42-year-old male patient who had trismus for 18 years.

RESUMEN

Paraneoplastic syndromes (PNS) include a series of disorders that accompany benign and malignant tumors. PNS occurs in one to seven percent of all cancer patients, however the evidences seem to be increasing. PNS associated with head and neck cancer can be divided into six main groups : endocrine, cutaneous or dermatologic, hematologic, osteoarticular or rheumatologic, neurologic and ocular syndromes. PNS can precede, follow or be concurrent with the malignant tumours. The following review thus aims to highlight various aspects of different Paraneoplastic syndromes and how important is awareness of these conditions for clinicians dealing with cancer.

RESUMEN

There is a well-known phrase that states, "The more things change, the more they stay the same." This expression continues to apply to tuberculosis (TB), a widespread infectious disease traced back to the earliest of centuries. TB has claimed its victims throughout much of known human history. Mycobacterium tuberculosis may have killed more persons than any other microbial pathogen and is one of the major causes of ill health and death worldwide. Although the overall incidence of TB has decreased, recently, the incidence of this disease appears to be increasing. Oral lesions of TB though uncommon are seen in both the primary and secondary stages of the disease. In secondary TB, the oral manifestations may be accompanied by lesions in the lungs, lymph nodes, or in any other part of the body and can be detected by a systemic examination. Most of the cases are secondary to pulmonary disease and the primary form is uncommon. Here, we present a case of primary oral TB, affecting the gingiva and hard palate in a 40-year-old Indian female patient.

RESUMEN

A total of 848 infertile women had an hysterosalpmgogram [HSG] done over a period of 4 years. The HSG finding have been tabulated and correlated with the date of age, duration and type of infertility and according to the past significant medical and surgical history. HSG films were interpreted normal in 41.6 percent cases and abnormal in 58.4 percent cases. 15.3 percent had unilateral tubal blockade and 24.3 percent had bilateral tubal block. Uterine abnormalities were detected in 12.4 percent and pelvic adhesions in 19.1 percent cases. The incidence of tubal factor increases with the age of the patients and duration of infertility. Out of 42 cases who gave past history of tuberculosis, 38 [90.5 percent] had an abnormal HSG and of the 28 cases who had an abdominal or pelvic surgery in the past, 24 [85.7 percent] had abnormal hysterosalpingography findings
