RESUMEN

For determination of albumin in urine, Bromcresol Green (BCG) was used as follows: stock BCG regent was diluted to 1:20, and 2.5 ml. of the reagent was added to 100 µl of specimen; the resulting reaction mixture was measured for optical density at 630 nm. The values of the routine Rebert’s Test and reagent strip (Albustix) were compared to those produced by the BCG method. The mean albumin values of the BCG method were 22.4, 54.6, 95.6, 180.4, 396.3 and 1,176.3 mg/dl which were comparable to the negative, trace, 1+, 2+, 3+, 4+ values of the Robert’s Test, respectively. The mean albumin values of the BCG method were 26.3, 52.7, 96.3, 191.7, 476.1 and 1,273.1 mg/dl which were comparable to the negative, trace, 1+, 2+, 3+, 4+ values of the Albustix, respectively. The albumin values from Albusix and the Robert’s Test could be estimated from this study.

RESUMEN

In this modified micromethod, a single reagent was added to 100 µl of CSF or urine and the absorbancy of the reaction mixture was read after mixing. The absorbancy of the reaction mixture was linearly proportional to the amount of albumin present in the sample (up to 300 mg/dl). The coefficient of variation of within run precision was 5.94, 3.81% for high and normal values of CSF and 3.24, 4.00% for high and normal values of urine. The coeffient of variation of day to day precision was 8.80, 5.69% for high and normal value of CSF and 4.58, 5.81% for high and normal values of urine. The recovery data for albumin is 92-110%. The determination of albumin by electrophoresis and immunochemistry are expensive technique. The present method is simple and give good accuracy and precision, wide range linearity, and needs only a small amount of simple. It id suitable for small laboratories because it requires only simple quipment.

RESUMEN

Several types of bacteria were found in 275 specimens of cerebrospinal fluids, identified as K. pneumoniae, S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, A. anitratus, Anaerobic streptococci, B. streptococci not gr A, S. viridans, Y. streptococci not gr B or D and Escherichia coli. Total protein concentration of these specimens were distinctly higher than normal. The values were 133-1700 mg/dl. The amount of albumin moderately decreased but the amount of gamma globulin markedly increased.
