RESUMEN

Loss of anterior teeth in patients with diastema presents a great esthetic challenge for the prosthodontists. In cases with midline diastema and interdental spacing, the option of a conventional fixed partial denture becomes impossible to use. This is because of the excess space available for pontic, which makes the incorporation of the diastema in the planned prosthesis, a compulsion. Diastema closure in such cases with the help of conventional fixed partial denture is bound to result in esthetic failures. This article presents a case of midline diastema successfully maintained by lingual loop connectors between the pontic and the retainers to achieve esthetic rehabilitation in the mandibular anterior region.

RESUMEN

Modified BG Prasad socioeconomic scale is widely used to determine the socioeconomic status of study subjects in health studies in India. It is an income-based scale and, therefore, has to be constantly updated to take inflation and depreciation of rupee into account. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers (IW) is used to calculate updated income categories for January 2014. Details of the calculations involved will enable young researchers to calculate specific income categories for their research work. State-specific CPI values are also available on the Department of Labour website and should be used to determine more accurate income categories for the study area.

RESUMEN

Computer aided designing-computer aided milling (CAD-CAM) technology was introduced to dentistry way back in 1971. Over the years there has been a constant upgradation in the quality and popularity of its application to dentistry. CAD-CAM fabricated prosthesis though initially were considered costly and technique sensitive, nowadays they are being extensively used because of advancements in various CAD-CAM systems that have gained popularity. Th e ease of work and reduced chair side time makes them a boon while providing prosthodontics treatment. Dental CAD-CAM systems are being used not only for crowns and bridges, inlays and onlays but also for fabrication of removable prosthesis, stents, and implant components. Th is article reviews the evolution of the CAD-CAM system and its applications in the fi eld of dentistry over the past two and a half decades.
