RESUMEN

Kerion celsi is an inflammatory type of tinea capitis and presents an inflammatory, boggy mass studded with broken hairs, oozing purulent material from follicular orifices. But it occurs usually in children and rarely in normal, healthy adults. We present an unusual case of kerion celsi caused by M. canis in a 69-year-old woman.

RESUMEN

We describe an 11-year-old male who developed recurrent pyogenic granuloma with satellitosis in the scapular region after surgical excision of a solitary pyogenic granuloma. This is a well-recognized but rare event. Histologic findings showed many newly formed capillaries that had prominent endothelial cells, and varying degrees of dilation without appearance of epidermal collarette sign. We report a case that the satellite lesions were removed by carbon-dioxide laser excision.

RESUMEN

The pseudolymphoma syndrome is characterized by a triad of fever, lymphadenopathy, and an erythematous rash. Although this syndrome has been well documented with phenytoin therapy, it is uncommon with carbamazepine. We report a case of the pseudolymphoma syndrome due to carbamazepine in a 27-year-old man who had a triad of clinical symptoms.

RESUMEN

Apocrine gland carcinoma is a rare form of sweat gland neoplasm with a distinctive cytologic appearance. Their occurrence has been reported mainly in the axilla and breast area. The authors describe a 51-year-old man with an apocrine gland carcinoma in the right axilla area. Physical exam revealed a 2.0 X 2.5 cm sized strawberry-like mass and histologic sections showed multiple cribriform pattern tumor nodules throughout the dermis. The periodic acid-Schiffs(PAS) diastase stain revealed positively staining granules in the cytoplasm of the neoplastic cells and stains for lysozyme and GCDFP-15(Gross Cystic Disease Fluid Protein-15) were also positive.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This is the studies about "If the soldiers expose in the paraquat, how much have it influenced on themselves who participated in the Vietnam War and their second generation?" and this is also researched about the factors that "How differents do the symptoms according to their health conditions and a class of diseases?". First of all, We divided them into 3 groups as exposure duration and exposure degree of the paraquat and We gave marks against each steps, too. ( point 20: high group). We've focused in "Does the high score really involves with their descendants who suffers from paraquat?" as direct damages men during from June 1965 to February 1971 (72 persons) and their descendants (266 persons) who are in the Pusan veterans hospital and outpatients. METHODS: It is completed by direct interview, telephone interview, army records, army history, and medical records with them. We've tried to minify sample bias as analyzing their information. We could contact only a few people among living in Pusan or Kyongnam province. Generally, someone including persons who couldn't get a damaging proofs from paraquat hardly joined us and the others strongly rejected the interview for this research. RESULTS: Among the 72 participating soldiers in the Vietnam war, average age of patient is 53 years old (the youngest: 46 years old, the oldest: 64 years old), average of exposure score is 16 point (minimum: 1.9 point, maximum: 31.9 point), average of pregnant frequency is 5.2 persons, and average degree of smoking is 14.382 single cigarette (minimum: 4 single cigarette, maximum: 60 single cigarette). The second generation is suffering from abortion, skin disorder, still birth, congenital anomalies, weakness, visual disturbance, peripheral neuropathy in frequency. CONCLUSION: There's no relation between exposure score of paraquat and diseases of the descendants.

RESUMEN

Squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) is a recognized late complication of chronic discoid lupus erythematosus(CDLE). There are many case reports of SCC in white patients with chronic DLE. However, it is uncommon in blacks and Asians. The etiology of squamous cell carcinoma is multifactorial. The predisposing factors for the development of SCC in these patients include actinic keratosis, Bowen's disease, burn scars, arsenic keratosis, and chronic discoid lupus erythematosus. Of these causes, SCC developing in the lesions of CDLE is very rare. We report a patient who has been evaluated for ten years with a diagnosis of discoid lupus erythematosus and has squamous cell carcinoma.

RESUMEN

A 69-year-old male was admitted to the neurosurgery department for traumatic intracra-nial hemorrhage in both frontal lobes. After 2 months, he complained of epigastric dis-comfort, nausea, vomiting, and loose stools. The gastric endoscopic examination found acute hemorrhagic gastritis and there were rhabditoid nematode larvae in the gastric fluid and biopsy sections. The filariform larvae of Strongyloides sp. were discovered from a fecal culture. The patient was treated with albendazole (200 mg, po bid, for 4 weeks). The epigastric discomfort disappeared and endoscopic findings improved after treatment.

RESUMEN

A 67-year-old male visited Pusan Veterans Hospital due to general weakness and weight loss for 6 months. Physical examination showed non-tender 4 finger breaths sized splenomegaly and both inguinal and cervical lymphadenopathy. The white blood cell count was 25,300/uL with 91% morphologically mature lymphocytes. Bone marrow aspirate revealed hypercellularity with 74.5% lymphocytes morphologically similar to peripheral lymphocytes. The immunophenotpying study of lymphocytes displayed the phenotype of CD19(+), CD20(+), HLA-DR(+), sIg(+) but CD5(-). We concluded that this patients's diagnosis is CD 5 negative B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

RESUMEN

Lovastatin(Mevacor) belongs to a new generation of potent drugs for the treatment of hypercho- lesterolemia. It acts by competitive inhibition of 3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A(HMG-CoA) reductase, diminishing in that way the cholesterol synthesis in the liver. HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors also affect cutaneous lipid content. This can induce cutaneous side effects such as eczernatous rashes or xerotic, ichthyosiform lesions due to abnormality in the barrier function in some patients. We report a 54-year-old male patient who developed ichthyosiform skin lesions under treatment with lovastatin(Mevacor) for hypercholesterolemia.

RESUMEN

Perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens is a rare chronic recalcitrant follicular disorder which clinically presents itself as pulstules, nodules, intercommunicating abscess and sinuses that leave atrophic, hypertrophic or keloidal scars. Although the etiology of this of condition is unknown, its association with acne conglobata and hidradenitis suppurativa, collectively termed the follicular occlusion triad, suggest a cammon basic pathogenic mechanism of follicular retention. The therapeutic problem is reflected in the variety of therapies that have been tried with varying degrees of success. We report a case of a 34-year-old man who showed a patch of alopecia on the vertex of his scalp. Clinically, the scalp showed multiple soft fluctuant elevated nodules with nonscarring alopecic patches. We performed a treatment with isotretinoin(13-cis-retinoic acid) during 6 months. The patients clinical appearance was much improved and local recurrence and hair loss have not been observed to date.

RESUMEN

Brunners gland adenoma is a benign epithelial tumor of the duodenum originating from submucosal Brunners gland. This is an extremely rare entity that account for only 10.6% of benign duodenal tumor, which are themselves relatively rare, representing 0.008% of all surgical and autopsy specimens. The clinical manifestation are nonspecific gastrointestinal complaints, such as bloating or epigastric pain, and the tumor gives rise to melena or anemia, due to the ulceration or erosion of the tumor. The diagnosis is usually made by radiologic studies and gastroduodenal endoscopy which can also provide definitive treatment. The aim of treatment is complete removal of the lesion and exclude malignancy. We report on 4 cases of Brunners gland adenoma which was confirmed by operation or endoscopic polypectomy.

RESUMEN

Endoscopic polypectomy was firstly introduced by Tsuneoka in 1969, and till now this method has been widely used for the treatment of benign and malignant polyps with the advent of technical improvement. This method is a very important modality as secondary prevention of malignancy because polyps in gastraintestinal tract are now being considered as precancerous lesion. Polypectomy with snare and electrocautery is mainly used for pedunclated polyps (eg. Yamada Class III, IV), but sessile polyps pose technical difficulty and occasionally cause serious gastrointestinal hemorrhage when resection margin adjacent polyp base. We performed polypectomy with "O"-ring used in endocopic variceal ligation (EVL) to make sessile polyp as semipedunclated form, and also to control bleeding, and then successfully remove it with conventional snare polypectomy. We report these 5 cases with the review of the literature.
