RESUMEN
Introducción: Las tendencias actuales en ortodoncia demuestran gran énfasis en la estética de la sonrisa, por lo que el propósito de este estudio fue establecer la relación de la satisfacción con la sonrisa y las características de esta evaluadas a través del arco de la sonrisa, corredores bucales, último diente superior visible de la sonrisa, altura de labio superior y la cantidad del largo de incisivos centrales mostrados al sonreír, así como el tamaño, forma y color de los incisivos. Material y método: Se obtuvo una muestra de 75 alumnos, 24 hombres y 51 mujeres con edades entre 18-22 años. Se les tomó una fotografía con la sonrisa posada y se les realizó una encuesta. Resultados: Las características predominantes de la sonrisa fueron: altura de la sonrisa baja, forma de incisivo rectangular, arco de sonrisa paralelo, presencia de corredores bucales y que el último diente observado en la sonrisa fue la segunda premolar. No hubo correlación entre las características estudiadas y la satisfacción con la sonrisa. Conclusiones: Los hallazgos más frecuentes fueron la altura de la sonrisa baja y la presencia de corredores bucales. Ninguna de las características se relacionó con la satisfacción con la sonrisa.
Introduction: Current trends in orthodontics show great emphasis on the aesthetics of the smile, so the purpose of this study was to establish the relationship of satisfaction with the smile and the characteristics of the evaluated through the arch of the smile, bucal brokers, last upper visible tooth of the smile, height of upper lip and the amount of the long central incisors displayed when smiling, as well as the size, shape and color of the incisors. Material and Method: A sample of 75 students was gotten, 24 men and 51 women aged 18-22 years. A picture with a smile inn was taken and a survey was done. Results: The predominant characteristics of the smile were: height of the smile low, rectangular shaped incisor, parallel smile arc, buccal corridor presence and noted that the last tooth in the smile was the second premolar. There was no correlation amongtraits and satisfaction with a smile. Conclusions: The most common findings were the low height of the smile and the presence of buccal corridors. None of the features was related to satisfaction with a smile.
