RESUMEN

Ferroptosis is a new type of programmed cell death, characterized by iron overload and lipid peroxidation. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an ischemic or hemorrhagic disease of the heart caused by various factors, mainly including myocardial infarction, heart failure, etc. Ferroptosis is involved in the process of myocardial cell damage and plays a driving role in the progression of various CVDs. Its main mechanisms include the destruction of iron homeostasis, the production of reactive oxygen species, the disorder of the antioxidant system, mitochondrial membrane damage, endoplasmic reticulum stress, tumor suppressor gene p53, transcription factor Nrf2 pathway, etc. Myocardial injury is one of the causes of death in many patients with heart disease. Monomers or compounds of traditional Chinese medicine have shown good effects in the treatment of myocardial cell injury caused by ferroptosis, including baicalin protecting cardiac microvascular endothelial cells of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) rats through intracellular phosphatidylinositol kinase/phosphokinase B/endothelial nitric oxide synthase (PI3K/Akt/eNOS) pathway, Aralia elata saponin inhibiting myocardial cell ferroptosis through glucocorticoid receptor/p53/solute carrier family 7 members 11 (NR3C1/p53/SLC7A11) pathway, Xinyang tablets improving oxidative stress by regulating phosphorylated serine/threonine protein kinase/stress-activated protein kinase/p53 (MLK3/JNK/p53) signaling pathway. It is of great significance to explore the mechanism of ferroptosis and the protective effect of related traditional Chinese medicine after myocardial cell injury. This article reviews the mechanism of ferroptosis and its relationship with myocardial cells, as well as traditional Chinese medicine monomers and formulas for treating CVDs through the ferroptosis pathway. The article focuses on the pathways and effects of traditional Chinese medicine treatment, so as to provide a reference for the treatment of CVDs with traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMEN

This study aims to investigate the effect of salvianolic acid B (Sal B), the active ingredient of Salvia miltiorrhiza, on H9C2 cardiomyocytes injured by oxygen and glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) through regulating mitochondrial fission and fusion. The process of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury was simulated by establishing OGD/R model. The cell proliferation and cytotoxicity detection kit (cell counting kit-8, CCK-8) was used to detect cell viability; the kit method was used to detect intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), total glutathione (t-GSH), nitric oxide (NO) content, protein expression levels of mitochondrial fission and fusion, apoptosis-related detection by Western blot. Mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP) detection kit and Hoechst 33342 fluorescence was used to observe the opening level of MPTP, and molecular docking technology was used to determine the molecular target of Sal B. The results showed that relative to control group, OGD/R injury reduced cell viability, increased the content of ROS, decreased the content of t-GSH and NO. Furthermore, OGD/R injury increased the protein expression levels of dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1), mitofusions 2 (Mfn2), Bcl-2 associated X protein (Bax) and cysteinyl aspartate specific proteinase 3 (caspase 3), and decreased the protein expression levels of Mfn1, increased MPTP opening level. Compared with the OGD/R group, it was observed that Sal B had a protective effect at concentrations ranging from 6.25 to 100 μmol·L-1. Sal B decreased the content of ROS, increased the content of t-GSH and NO, and Western blot showed that Sal B decreased the protein expression levels of Drp1, Mfn2, Bax and caspase 3, increased the protein expression level of Mfn1, and decreased the opening level of MPTP. In summary, Sal B may inhibit the opening of MPTP, reduce cell apoptosis and reduce OGD/R damage in H9C2 cells by regulating the balance of oxidation and anti-oxidation, mitochondrial fission and fusion, thereby providing a scientific basis for the use of Sal B in the treatment of myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo explore whether the mechanism of Shuangshen Ningxin capsules (SSNX) in alleviating myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) in rats is related to the regulation of mitochondrial fission and fusion. MethodThis study focused on Sprague Dawley (SD) rats and ligated the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery to construct a rat model of MIRI. The rats were divided into the sham operation group, model group, SSNX group (90 mg·kg-1) and trimetazidine group (5.4 mg·kg-1). The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) were detected by micro method. Changes in mitochondrial membrane potential (△Ψm) and the degree of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) opening were detected by the chemical fluorescence method. The intracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) level was detected by the luciferase assay. The messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and protein expression levels of mitochondrial fission and fusion related factors dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1), mitochondrial fission 1 protein (FIS1), optic atrophy protein 1 (OPA1), mitochondrial outer membrane fusion protein 1 (MFN1), and MFN2 were detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) and Western blot. ResultCompared with the sham operation group, the model group showed a decrease in serum SOD activity and an increase in MDA content. The opening level of mPTP, the level of △Ψm and ATP content decreased, the protein expressions of mitochondrial fission factors DRP1 and FIS1 increased, and the protein expressions and mRNA transcription levels of fusion related factors OPA1 and MFN1 decreased. Compared with the model group,SSNX significantly increased serum SOD activity, reduced MDA content, increased intracellular ATP level and △Ψm, reduced the opening level of mPTP, downregulated the protein expressions of mitochondrial fission factors DRP1 and FIS1, and increased the mRNA transcription levels and protein expressions of fusion related factors OPA1 and MFN1. ConclusionSSNX inhibits the expressions of mitochondrial fission factors DRP1 and FIS1, and increases the expressions of fusion related factors OPA1 and MFN1, inhibiting mitochondrial fission and increasing mitochondrial fusion, thereby alleviating MIRI.

RESUMEN

ObjectiveTo observe and compare the electrocardiogram index, myocardial morphology, and connexin 43 (Cx43) expression of two rat models of acute cerebral infarction (ACI) due to stasis combined with toxin complicated with cerebral-cardiac syndrome (CCS), and to provide experimental evidence for the research on the occurrence mechanism of cardiac diseases induced by ACI and the clinical diagnosis and treatment of CCS. MethodSixty SPF-grade male SD rats were randomized into six groups (n=10): normal , syndrome of stasis combined with toxin induced by carrageenin combined with dry yeast (CA/Y), multi-infarct induced by micro-embolism (ME), middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO), CA/Y+ME, and CA/Y+MCAO groups. The model of syndrome of stasis combined with toxin was established by intraperitoneal injection with carrageenan (CA) at 10 mg·kg-1 on the first day and subcutaneous injection with dry yeast (Y) suspension (2 mg·kg-1) on the second day of modeling. Twenty-four hours after the modeling of ACI, the electrocardiograms (ECGs) of rats in each group were collected and the number/percentage (%) of abnormal ECG was calculated. The infarct area of the brain was evaluated by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, and myocardial injury was assessed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Immumohistochemical staining and Western blot were employed to determine the expression of Cx43 in the myocardium. ResultA certain number of rats in each model group presented abnormal ECG. Compared with the normal group and CA/Y group, CA/Y+MCAO group had the highest rate of abnormal ECG (P<0.01). Compared with the normal, CA/Y, ME, and CA/Y+ME groups, the CA/Y+ME and CA/Y+MCAO groups showed decreased amplitudes of P-wave and T-wave, shortened P-R interval, and extended Q-T interval, which were particularly obvious in the CA/Y+MCAO group (P<0.05, P<0.01) and in accordance with the cerebral infarction area and pathological changes. The expression of Cx43 was up-regulated in both CA/Y+ME and CA/Y+MCAO groups, especially in the CA/Y+MCAO group (P<0.01). ConclusionThe two rat models of ACI due to stasis combined with toxin complicated with CCS can be used to study the mechanism of heart diseases caused by cerebrovascular diseases and the therapeutic effects of Chinese medicines with the functions of resolving stasis and detoxifying. Moreover, the CA/Y+MCAO method has higher abnormal electrocardiogram rate, severer myocardial pathological injury, and higher expression of Cx43 protein. The models can be chosen according to specific experimental purpose.

Objective:To analyze the correlation between nutritional status and frailty and sarcopenia in geriatric inpatients (GIPs) planning to receive major hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. Methods:From December, 2020 to September, 2022, GIPs who were planning to receive major HPB surgery were recruited. Nutritional assessment was performed using nutritional risk screening 2002 (NRS-2002) and Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. Frailty and sarcopenia assessment were performed using Fried frailty phenotype (FFP) and Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 consensus on sarcopenia diagnosis and treatment. The prevalence and concurrence of malnutrition, frailty and sarcopenia were investigated, and the correlation between nutritional status and frailty and sarcopenia was analyzed. Results:A total of 144 participants at the mean age of (70.10±7.44) years were included. The prevalence of nutritional risk, malnutrition, and severe malnutrition were 73.6% ( n ?=?106), 68.1% ( n ?=?98), and 34.7% ( n ?=?50) respectively. The prevalence of frailty was 20.8% ( n ?=?30) and that of sarcopenia was 35.4% ( n ?=?51). The prevalence of severe malnutrition increased significantly in older participants and the prevalence of nutritional risk, malnutrition and severe malnutrition decreased significantly with higher BMI. The prevalence was 35.4% (51/144) for concurrent sarcopenia and malnutrition, 19.4% (28/144) for frailty and malnutrition, 14.6% (21/144) for sarcopenia and weakness, and 14.6% (21/144) for sarcopenia, malnutrition, and weakness. There was a positive correlation between nutritional risk and frailty ( r = 0.603, P < 0.001). The risk of pre-frailty and frailty in the nutritional risk group was higher than that in the non-nutritional risk group ( χ 2 = 31.830, P < 0.001). The risk of pre-frailty and frailty in the malnutrition group was higher than that in the normal nutrition group ( χ 2 = 36.727, P < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of frailty in patients with severe malnutrition was 12.303 times higher than that in patients with normal nutrition status (95% CI: 2.592 to 58.409, P = 0.002). The risk of sarcopenia in the nutritional risk group was higher than that in the non-nutritional risk group ( χ 2 = 13.982, P < 0.001). The risk of sarcopenia in the malnutrition group was higher than that in the normal nutrition group ( χ 2 = 37.066, P < 0.001). Conclusions:The prevalence and concurrence rate of malnutrition, frailty, and sarcopenia are high in GIPs undergoing major HPB surgery. GIPs with malnutrition are susceptible to frailty.

RESUMEN

Objective:To learn about the iodine nutritional status of children aged 8 to 10 years in Xiamen City after the reform of salt industry system, and to provide scientific basis for reasonable prevention and control of iodine deficiency disorders. Methods:From 2017 to 2019, 6 districts were selected each year in Xiamen City 5 sampling districts were divided according to the oriation of east, west, south, north and center in each district. One town (street, hereinafter refered as to town) was selected from each sampling district. One primary school was selected from each town. For each primary school, at least 40 non-boarding children aged 8 to 10 years (age balanced, half male and half female) were selected. Edible salt samples in the households and random urine samples of children aged 8 to 10 years were collected, and salt iodine and urinary iodine contents were measured, while thyroid volume was examined by B-ultrasound.Results:From 2017 to 2019, the coverage rate of iodized salt in Xiamen City was 97.34% (1 206/1 239), 96.89% (1 214/1 253), and 93.33% (1 175/1 259), respectively; the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 96.13% (1 191/1 239), 95.61% (1 198/1 253), and 91.58% (1 153/1 259), respectively; the median urinary iodine was 182.90, 182.81, 164.00 μg/L, respectively. The prevalence of goiter of boys and girls was 1.01% (19/1 889) and 2.26% (42/1 862), respectively. Conclusions:After the reform of salt industry system, the iodine nutritional status of children aged 8 to 10 years is generally at an appropriate level in Xiamen City. However, the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt is reduced, which increases the risk of iodine deficiency for residents. Therefore, we should strengthen the propaganda of scientific iodine supplement, maintain a high consumption rate of qualified iodized salt, and prevent the harm of iodine deficiency.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of andrographolide (Andro) on angiogenesis in rats with diabetic foot and to explore its mechanism of action based on the Hippo-Yes-associated protein (YAP) signaling pathway. METHODS The rat model of type 2 diabetes was established by using low-dose streptozotocin combined with high-fat and high-glucose diet. On the basis of successful modeling, the rat model of diabetes foot was established by scalding. Model rats were randomly divided into 5 groups with 12 rats in each group: model group, Andro low-dose, medium-dose, and high-dose groups (1, 10, and 20 mg/kg), as well as inhibitor group (20 mg/kg Andro+100 mg/kg of verteporfin, an specific inhibitor of Hippo-YAP signaling pathway); other 12 healthy rats were included in the Control group. Rats in each group were intragastrically and intraperitoneally injected with solvents or corresponding drugs, once a day, for 2 consecutive weeks. The wound healing, fasting blood glucose (FBG) and fasting insulin (FINS) were detected in rats after medication. HE staining was performed to observe the tissue damage and capillary number of rat trauma; the number of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in peripheral blood of rats was counted by using flow cytometry; the contents of serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in rats were determined by fully automatic biochemical analyzer; the expressions of hypoxia- inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Hippo-YAP signaling pathway-related proteins in the traumatic tissues of rats in each group were detected by Western blot. RESULTS Compared with Control group, the wound healing rate, capillary number, the proportion of EPCs, HDL-C content, as well as the protein expression levels of HIF-1α and VEGF and the phosphorylation levels of mammalian Ste20-like kinase 1, large tumor suppressor gene 1 and YAP proteins were significantly reduced in the model group, while the FBG, FINS levels and TC, TG and LDL-C contents were significantly increased (P<0.05). Compared with model group, the above indexes were significantly reversed in Andro low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose group, in a dose-dependent manner (P< 0.05); verteporfin attenuated the above reversal effect of Andro (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Andro has the effects of lowering blood glucose and blood lipids, promoting blood vessel formation and wound healing in rats with diabetic foot, and its mechanism of action may be related to the activation of Hippo-YAP signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the protective effect of Huoxin Pill (HXP) on acute myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MIRI) injury in rats.@*METHODS@#Seventy-five adult SD rats were divided into the sham-operated group, model group, positive drug group (diltiazem hydrochloride, DH), high dose group (24 mg/kg, HXP-H) and low dose group (12 mg/kg, HXP-L) of Huoxin Pill (n=15 for every group) according to the complete randomization method. After 1 week of intragastric administration, the left anterior descending coronary artery of the rat's heart was ligated for 45 min and reperfused for 3 h. Serum was separated and the levels of creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA), hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) were measured. Myocardial ischemia rate, myocardial infarction rate and myocardial no-reflow rate were determined by staining with Evans blue and 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC). Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP) and Bioinformatics Analysis Tool for Molecular mechANism of Traditional Chinese Medicine (BATMAN) databases were used to screen for possible active compounds of HXP and their potential therapeutic targets; the results of anti-inflammatory genes associated with MIRI were obtained from GeneCards, Drugbank, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), and Therapeutic Target Datebase (TTD) databases was performed; Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment were used to analyze the intersected targets; molecular docking was performed using AutoDock Tools. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor kappa-B (NFκB)/NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3).@*RESULTS@#Compared with the model group, all doses of HXP significantly reduced the levels of LDH, CK and CK-MB (P<0.05, P<0.01); HXP significantly increased serum activity of SOD (P<0.05, P<0.01); all doses of HXP significantly reduced the levels of hs-CRP and IL-1β (P<0.05, P<0.01) and the myocardial infarction rate and myocardial no-reflow rate (P<0.01). GO enrichment analysis mainly involved positive regulation of gene expression, extracellular space and identical protein binding, KEGG pathway enrichment mainly involved PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and lipid and atherosclerosis. Molecular docking results showed that kaempferol and luteolin had a better affinity with TLR4, NFκB and NLRP3 molecules. The protein expressions of TLR4, NFκB and NLRP3 were reduced in the HXP group (P<0.01).@*CONCLUSIONS@#HXP has a significant protective effect on myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats, and its effect may be related to the inhibition of redox response and reduction of the inflammatory response by inhibiting the TLR4NFκB/NLRP3 signaling pathway.

RESUMEN

【Objective】 To investigate the feasibility and safety of semiconductor blue laser in the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) in the day surgery model. 【Methods】 The clinical data of 22 NMIBC patients (average age 55.8 years and tumor size 1.4 cm) who underwent outpatient screening and accepted blue laser ambulatory surgery in our hospital during Jun.2022 and Sep.2022 were retrospectively analyzed. On the day of admission, transurethral resection of cancer was performed using blue laser en bloc enucleation. On the day of surgery or in the morning of next day, bladder irrigation was stopped, the catheter was removed, and patients were discharged. The baseline data, pre-hospital waiting time, operation time, length of hospital stay, hemoglobin decrease, complications and management, follow-up, medical costs, and patients’ satisfaction rate were recorded. 【Results】 The pre-hospital waiting time was 2 to 7 days, average (4.1±1.3)days. The operation time was 29 to 50 minutes, average (40.8±5.5)minutes. The length of hospital stay was 0.6 to 1.2 days, average (0.9±0.2)days. Hemoglobin decrease was 1 g/L to 8 g/L, average (3.8±1.8)g/L. The catheter was indwelt for 0.5 to 1 day, average (0.7±0.1)day. The medical costs were 13 790 to 16 811 Yuan, average (14 941.5±690.2) Yuan. Patients’ satisfaction rate was 100.0%. Mild intraoperative and postoperative complications occurred in 2 cases. One patient developed symptoms of cystitis which disappeared after 2 days of oral antibiotic cefixime, and another patient developed bladder spasm which was relieved after oral solifenacin succinate tablets. No adverse events such as obturator nerve reflex or bladder perforation occurred. After removal of the catheter, no urinary retention was observed. 【Conclusion】 This study was the first to apply blue laser ambulatory surgery in the treatment of bladder cancer, confirming that it is a safe, feasible, economical and efficient model for selected patients, which can be promoted in suitable hospitals.

RESUMEN

【Objective】 To compare the efficacy and safety of blue laser en bloc enucleation and traditional plasmakinetic electrocautery in the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). 【Methods】 A total of 50 NMIBC patients treated in our hospital during Oct.2018 and Dec.2019 were enrolled. A randomized, incomplete blinding, parallel control design and non-inferior test method was adopted. The control group (electrocautery group) used plasmakinetic electrocautery for transurethral resection, and the experimental group (blue laser group) used semiconductor blue laser for transurethral en bloc enucleation. The effective resection rate, operation time, postoperative catheter indwelling time, length of hospital stay, perioperative hemoglobin changes and obturator nerve reflex were compared. 【Results】 There were 24 patients in the blue laser group and 26 in the electrocautery group. The effective dissection rate and hemostasis rate in both groups reached 100%. The blue laser group had slightly longer operation time than the electrocautery group (55 min vs.42 min, P=0.009), but lesser hemoglobin decrease (5.7 g/L vs. 10.4 g/L, P=0.007). There were no significant differences in urinary catheter indwelling time, length of hospital stay and reoperation rate between the two groups. The electrocautery group had 3 cases of obturator nerve reflex, while the blue laser group had none. 【Conclusion】 Compared with the traditional electrocautery, blue laser has good vaporization cutting and coagulation hemostatic effects on bladder tumor tissue, and can completely enucleate tumors in a front-firing model with less bleeding and no obturator nerve reflex, which can be used as a new, efficient, safe and easy-to-learn method for NMIBC surgery. However, its effects on postoperative recurrence rate and progression rate still need further studies.

RESUMEN

【Objective】 To evaluate the predictive value of isoform [-2] proprostate-specific antigen, p2 PSA (p2PSA) and its derived indexes for prostate cancer in a Chinese cohort with PSA 4-20 ng/mL. 【Methods】 A total of 139 males scheduled for biopsy were enrolled in the prospective study from Nov.2021 to Jun.2022. The total PSA (tPSA), free PSA (fPSA), fPSA/tPSA (f/t) and p2PSA were collected, and the percentage of p2PSA(%p2PSA) and prostate health index(PHI) were calculated. The predictive value of p2PSA and its derived indexes were compared with traditional indexes with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and Logistic analysis. 【Results】 Prostate cancer was found in 54 cases (38.8%). There were significant statistical differences in tPSA(10.68 vs.8.14, P=0.021), f/t(0.13 vs.0.16, P=0.006), p2PSA(30.25 vs.19.81, P<0.001), %p2PSA(21.52 vs.13.15, P<0.001) and PHI(64.3vs.38.2, P<0.001) between prostate cancer patients and non-prostate cancer patients. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of tPSA, fPSA, %fPSA, p2PSA, %p2PSA and PHI were 0.63, 0.51, 0.63, 0.71, 0.73, and 0.80, respectively. The inclusion of %p2PSA and PHI significantly increased the prediction efficiency of the basic prediction model (AUCbase+PHI=0.81, AUCbase+%p2PSA=0.78, AUCbase=0.67). With 35 as the recommended cut-off value of PHI, the incidence of meaningless puncture was reduced by 25.8%(36/139). 【Conclusion】 The application of p2PSA and its derived indexes have good predictive value for patients with PSA 4-20 ng/mL. The combined detection of %p2PSA and PHI can significantly increase the detection efficiency of prostate cancer and reduce the incidence of meaningless prostate puncture by 25.8%.

RESUMEN

【Objective】 To explore the expressions of PBRM1 and PD-L1 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and the molecular mechanism of PBRM1 regulating PD-L1, in order to provide experimental results for clinical immunotherapy. 【Methods】 The protein expressions of PBRM1 and PD-L1 were detected with immunohistochemistry, and their mRNA expressions were determined by analyzing TCGA database. Meanwhile, the relationship between overall survival and mRNA expressions of PBRM1 and PD-L1 were analyzed in TCGA database. The exosomes were extracted with exoEasy Maxi Kit. Expressions of exosomal biomarkers CD63 and CD9 were detected with Western blotting, and their morphology was observed with transmission electron microscope. PD-L1 expression after IFN-γ, IL-6 and TNF-α treatment was detected with Western blotting. 【Results】 The expression of PBRM1 was significantly lower in canver tissue than in paracancerous tissue (P<0.001). The loss rate of PBRM1 was up to 76.4%. PBRM1 expression was not correlated with PD-L1 expression. PBRM1 deletion activated TNF-α/exosome signaling pathway, leading to increase of PD-L1 secretion in exosomes, which was then transported to the outside of cells. 【Conclusion】 There is no relationship between PBRM1 and PD-L1 protein expressions in RCC. However, PBRM1 mutation can lead to inflammatory signaling pathway activation, inducing PD-L1 secretion, which is encapsulated in exosomes and transported to the outside of cells, and affects the response of immunotherapy.

RESUMEN

Silibinin is a kind of flavonoid extracted from the dried ripe fruit of Silybum marianum,a plant of compositae. It has a variety of pharmacological activities and can effectively prevent and treat diabetes and its complications. This paper reviews the research progress on the mechanism of silibinin in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications. It is found that silibinin can prevent and treat diabetes by up-regulating the expression of estrogen receptor-α,activating the duodenum-brain-liver axis pathway and stabilizing the protein structure. It can prevent and cure the nervous system diseases of diabetes by activating glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor/protein kinase A signal pathway and inhibiting the hyperphosphorylation of tau protein. It can prevent and treat diabetic retinopathy by down-regulating the expression and activity of pro-inflammatory,pro-oxidative factors and histone deacetylase 6. It can prevent diabetic nephropathy by activating protein kinase B signal pathway and reducing the level of transforming growth factor-β1,and prevent and treat diabete’s obesity by inhibition of hepatobiliary transporter CD36 expression, and suppressing nuclear factor-κB pathway and its downstream expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines(tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β),etc.
