RESUMEN
A cross-sectional study of the prevalence rate of some eye diseases [abnormal appearance] among people living in Baghdad city was conducted. The overall prevalence rate of eye diseases in the study population [a total of 21462 subjects],including the wearing of glasses, was 32.7% of the total population 20.4% wore spectacles 64.5% of the total population had eyes with a dark-colored iris, but only 2.9% had color blindness

A random sample of 2686 persons from Baghdad City was studied for varicose veins [VV]. The prevalence rate [PR] of VV was 15% [for male 7.7% and for female 20.6%]. No significant differences were found for the presence of VV between people of different age groups, different educational level, but a significant difference was found for VV between people of different occupations [the PR of VV for teachers was 28.8% and for office workers was 7.8%] and for the way the person was doing the job [the PR of VV for people doing the job in a standing position was 28.8% and in a sitting position was 3.9%]. The PR of VV in both legs was 59.4% in comparison to 12.1% among people who had VV in left leg or 28.5% in right leg. The study shows that the PR of VV among people whose parent [s] had history of VV was 37.4% in comparison to 12.4% among people whose parent[s] had no such history
