RESUMEN

Magnesium-doped calcium silicate (CS) bioceramic scaffolds have unique advantages in mandibular defect repair; however, they lack antibacterial properties to cope with the complex oral microbiome. Herein, for the first time, the CS scaffold was functionally modified with a novel copper-containing polydopamine (PDA(Cu2+‍)) rapid deposition method, to construct internally modified (*P), externally modified (@PDA), and dually modified (*P@PDA) scaffolds. The morphology, degradation behavior, and mechanical properties of the obtained scaffolds were evaluated in vitro. The results showed that the CS*P@PDA had a unique micro-/nano-structural surface and appreciable mechanical resistance. During the prolonged immersion stage, the release of copper ions from the CS*P@PDA scaffolds was rapid in the early stage and exhibited long-term sustained release. The in vitro evaluation revealed that the release behavior of copper ions ascribed an excellent antibacterial effect to the CS*P@PDA, while the scaffolds retained good cytocompatibility with improved osteogenesis and angiogenesis effects. Finally, the PDA(Cu2+)-modified scaffolds showed effective early bone regeneration in a critical-size rabbit mandibular defect model. Overall, it was indicated that considerable antibacterial property along with the enhancement of alveolar bone regeneration can be imparted to the scaffold by the two-step PDA(Cu2+) modification, and the convenience and wide applicability of this technique make it a promising strategy to avoid bacterial infections on implants.

RESUMEN

Conventional periodontal regenerative surgery has limited effect on tooth with severe periodontitis-related alveolar bone defects. This article reported a case of regenerative treatment in severe distal-bone defect of mandibular first molar. The treatment involved applying 3D printing, advanced/injectable platelet-rich fibrin, and guided tissue-regeneration technology. After the operation, the periodontal clinical index significantly improved and the alveolar bone was well reconstructed.

RESUMEN

To analyze the global burden of periodontal disease and its relation with socioeconomic development. Data of global disability-adjusted life year (DALY) due to periodontal disease and human development index (HDI) from 1990 to 2019 were obtained from Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) and human development reports. The trend of the global burden of periodontal disease from 1990 to 2019 was described. The correlation between age-standardized DALY rates and HDI were examined in 2019, and between-country periodontal disease burden inequality from 1990 to 2019 was measured using health-related Gini coefficients and concentration indexes. From 1990 to 2019, the global DALY rate due to periodontal disease increased from 78.63 to 85.48, and the epidemiological burden did not increase significantly. Statistical differences were found across different HDI categories for age-standardized DALY rates of periodontal disease ( 44.315, <0.01) in 2019. Linear regression analysis also revealed a negative correlation between age-standardized DALY rate of periodontal disease and HDI ( = -0.417, <0.01) . Gini coefficients decreased from 0.361 to 0.281 and concentration indexes fell from 0.0339 to -0.0538 between 1990 and 2019. The global burden of periodontal disease did not increase between 1990 and 2019, though the socioeconomic-associated inequality still existed. The burden of periodontal disease was more concentrated in less developed countries, and the socioeconomic-associated inequality has increased since 2000.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of Treg and Th17 cells in patients with ovarian endometrioma (OEM) pre-and post-laparoscopy.Methods 36 patients with OEM undergoing laparoscopic surgery and confirmed by the pathology were enrolled as the experiment group, and 25 patients with fallopian tube obstruction who received laparoscopic examination were enrolled as the control group. The peripheral blood samples were collected from the control group and the experiment group before operation as well as from the experiment group 3 months after operation.Intraoperative peritoneal fluid were also collected from both groups. The levels of IL-17,IL-22,IL-23,IL-10 and TGF-β in serum and peritoneal fluid were detected by ELISA.The proportion of Treg and Th17 cells in peripheral blood was detected by flow cytometry. Results Compared with the control group, the levels of IL-17,IL-22 and IL-23 in the peritoneal fluid and serum of the experiment group increased significantly, while the levels of IL-10 and TGF-β were significantly decreased (P<0.05).The proportion of Th17 cells in the peripheral blood of the experiment group increased significantly, and the proportion of Treg cells decreased significantly (P<0.05).Compared with pre-laparoscopic treatment, the serum IL-17,IL-22 and IL-23,and the proportion of Th17 cells in peripheral blood were significantly decreased in the experiment group, and the levels of IL-10 and TGF-β in serum increased significantly (P<0.05).Conclusions In patients with OEM,Treg and Th17 cell imbalance and the expression of related cytokines in disorder may be an important factor in the occurrence and development of disease.Detection of Treg/Th17 cells and their cytokines plays an important role in evaluating the severity of the disease and judging the efficacy of laparoscopic treatment and prognosis of OEM.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of estrogen receptor (ER),progesterone receptor(PR)and epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)in uterine leiomyoma and the recurrence after myomectomy. Methods Eighty cases underwent myomectomy were enrolled in this study.ER,PR and EGFR expression in uterine leiomyoma tissue and normal myometrium tissue were examined by immunohistochemical technique. All the patients were followed up regularly after myomectomy. Results The positive expression rate of ER,PR and EGFR in uterine leiomyoma tissue were significantly higher than those in normal myometrium tissue[88.8%(71/80)vs.48.8%(39/80),92.5%(74/80)vs.30.0% (24/80),86.2%(69/80)vs.57.5%(46/80),P < 0.05].The recurrence rates in ER,PR and EGFR positive expression patients were significantly higher than those in negative expression patients[42.3%(30/71)vs.22.2%(2/9),41.9%(31/74)vs.16.7%(1/6),42.0%(29/69)vs.27.3%(3/11),P < 0.05].The recurrence times in ER,PR and EGFR positive expression patients were significantly shorter than those in negative expression patients(P <0.05).The expression of EGFR had positive correlation with ER and PR(r =0.837,0.702,P < 0.05).Conclusions The recurrence of uterine leiomyoma may have correlation with high expression of ER,PR and EGFR in uterine leiomyoma.
